The 1st Grade traveled to Longwood Gardens on a rainy day in April.
They met with an instructor, who taught them about pollination.
She explained how plants make seeds.
She talked about the way that plants need pollinators like bees or birds to help in this process.
She read about types of pollinators.
She showed them a model of the stamen and pistils of a flower.
She sent them off on a scavenger hunt to identify parts of flowers and find pollinators.
The kids worked hard to find everything.
They had to examine the plants very closely.
In the Mediterranean Garden, they went over the results of the scavenger hunt.
The students were able to share what they had found.
The leader showed them how to make a pollinator out of a pipe cleaner, and how to use it.
The students worked like busy bees to pollinate the flowers.
It was a fun trip!
