King's Hall Cinema, c. 1913. The King's Hall Cinema opened in December 1912 at the north end of Lewisham High Street. The cinema was bombed several times during World War II but continued as a cinema until it was demolished in the 1980s.

Rex Bingo Hall, Lewisham High Street
The Hippodrome at Catford, c. 1912. The Hippodrome music hall, which was designed by Frank Matcham, opened in 1911. With a capacity of 3,222 it was clearly a sign that Catford had reached maturity as a suburb.
Gaumont Palace Cinema, The Obelisk, Lewisham, 1933. The cinema was typical of the opulent large cinemas opened at the time, though the Gaumont far outclassed most. The cinema was badly damaged by fire in 1962. It later became the Odeon, and was demolished after years of neglect in 1991 to make way for a new roundabout and road layout.
Deptford Theatre, Deptford Church Street, Deptford, Lewisham, c. 1840. Deptford Theatre was the town's earliest such establishment. It stood on the east side of Church Street, backing onto the creek.
Catford Picture Palace, Sangley Road, Catford, Lewisham, c. 1914. Catford provided entertainment for itself and for Lewisham as a whole. It had a theatre, three cinemas and a roller skating rink. The Electric Picture Palace shown here was the first of these when it opened in 1909. The much larger Central Hall Picture House was next door.

Splendid Cinema, Bromley Road, Downham
New Cross Kinema, 1927. The New Cross Kinema, New Cross Road, opened in 1925. There was a cinema on the ground floor and a dance hall above. It retained its Kinema title until 1950 when it became part of the Gaumont chain, it closed in 1960.
