The Godzilla statue near Hibiya Park.
"It's possible that another Godzilla might appear
somewhere in the world, again."
-1954 Biologist, Dr. Yamane (last lines from "Gojira")
Erected in December 1995, serving as a memorial when Godzilla died in "Godzilla vs Destoroyah". They still made 6 more Godzilla movies.
Despite the books I've read, it is not *in* Hibiya Park, but a plaza a couple blocks away. Good thing I didn't search the whole park!
For Godzilla fans, I took a few angles ; )
It seems to be based on the Heisei Godzilla costume, featured in the movies from 1989-1995.
Look at me being all cinematographic
And from the back
Seen enough? See more Godzilla at my old Godzilla home page: http://gvsdestoroyah.dulcemichaelanya.com/
Side of a vending machine. He wasn't as ubiquitous in Tokyo as I thought he'd be. Then again, he hasn't had a movie since 2004.
Godzilla Blu-Ray! And 10% off! Let me get my calculator: ¥5330=$63? At least it's on sale, right?
Bandai Godzilla 6" vinyl figures in Asakusa. I already had Godzilla and Destoroyah: http://gvsdestoroyah.dulcemichaelanya.com/Coll1.htm
The same ones in Akihabara. Didn't see any others styles; no large ones or small candy toys.
I did see a gashapon toy display in Yodobashi, but they didn't have a machine with the actual capsules.
I already had the Destoroyah anyway.
Toho's Nichigeki Theater, destroyed in "Gojira" (1954). It's the circular building in the promo photo above. It was never rebuilt, replaced by a large glass building.
The Wako Building, destroyed in "Gojira" (1954). The movie was released stateside as "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" (1956)
The National Diet Building, destroyed in "Gojira" (1954)
Kachidoki Bridge, destroyed in "Gojira" (1954)
Yurakucho Mullion, featured in "The Return of Godzilla" (1984). In a neat shot, he was reflected in the building. In the US's "Godzilla 1985", the scene was cut.
Fuji TV Building, nearly destroyed in "Godzilla X Megaguirus" (2000)
Tokyo Tower, not destroyed until "Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S." in 2003. Why was this obvious landmark spared so long? Perhaps Hello Kitty scared Godzilla away.
Tokyo Big Sight, destroyed in "Godzilla vs Destoroyah" (1995). My favorite Godzilla movie.
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, destroyed in "Godzilla vs King Ghidorah" (1991)
Oh no! There goes Tokyo!
Godzilla vs Tokyo Tower
Miniature set completed. Should I get the Godzilla suit ready to rampage?
This Godzilla ride was found in the Central Plaza Mall in Daet, Philippines. This was on our second leg of our Asian trip: http://picasaweb.google.com/anyaflip
Another Godzilla ride in the mall in Daet. Philippines. I saw this in my 2004 trip to Asia.
"So, what Godzilla stuff did Daddy get in Japan?"
Nada. I already had the coolest toys, er, "collectibles" before my trip, thanks to Ala Moana's Shirokiya dept store and Omaha's Aki Oriental.
The battle for Grant's wooden train set begins!
For an html class, I created a Godzilla fan site webpage: http://gvsdestoroyah.dulcemichaelanya.com/
A birthday gift from my family: an awesome decal for our Wagon Queen Family Truckster!
