Finns in Pittsburgh
This summer, the Pittsburgh Finns gathered for a picnic at Alpine Park in Monroeville, a community just east of Pittsburgh. Highlights included grilled treats and delectable side dishes.
The group also enjoyed conversing with Seija Cohen, the long-time leader of the chapter, who shared information she brought back from the 2013 Finn Fest. Other activities included a sing-along event led by Jukka Akkanen on guitar and assisted by his wife, Beth Gehrman. The Pittsburgh Finns enjoyed singing such favorites as “Suomen laulu” or “Finland’s Song.”
Pittsburgh Chapter tote bags, T-shirts and other items were available for purchase to support the chapter’s plan to build a Finnish Nationality Room in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Finns are aa active group. Finns and friends of Finns are welcome to join for all activities. For more information, please visit the chapter’s website at www.pittsburghfinns.org or contact Seija Cohen at SeijaC@aol.com.
