A group before the run, including Hal Winton and Scott Mills.
Before the start. That's Julie Westland-Litus on the left and Ulli Kamm in the middle.
I'm the most colorful guy out there, in my tights and homemade windbreaker.

A beautiful evening from Engineer Pass, looking back toward Grouse.
Looking down from Engineer Pass toward Ouray
Down, but not out in Ouray. I went out way too fast for the shape I was in, and nearly dropped out at Ouray. Luckily I ran into Gordon Hardman who convinced me to take a nap before deciding to drop. After the nap (and another one at the Governor Basin aid station), I decided to keep going.

Looking at the final pitch up Grant-Swamp pass
It was a tough scramble! Much harder than going down it had been in the previous Hardrock year (1994). Luckily, the rain had helped solidify the scree dirt.

The wildflowers were spectacular!
So was the evening light on Putnam Divide!
Running into the sunset on Putnam Divide
With Dad at the finish. Even though I crashed and burned at Ouray, the rest of the run was a joy, just putting away the miles, loving the scenery, and enjoying the company of Dave Scudder and my Dad.

Joel Zucker, too fast for my camera at the award banquet
John Cappis gets the Mother Lode Award for service to the run. That's Gordon Hardman between him and Dale.
