Preserving a family tradition, Chris and I skipped school/work to travel across the country to go used car shopping (well, when I was a kid it happened to be a boat, but the concept is the same).
We started pretty early in the morning. Destination: North Carolina.
Chris snapped an "artistic" shot of the sunrise.
"737 coming outta the sky"
"He always found the actual traveling-through-space part of space travel rather trying"
Our awesome rented ride and more awesomer rented room.
It turns out North Carolina does some pretty good bbq. Who knew!
I wanted more of the ribs. Chris pwned them.
...to be continued...
Day 2: Arriving at one of the two used car stores. This one is going to do an inspection on the car we're looking at.
Is this the car?.....No.
Must be this one?.....No
None of these either. But it was a good day of looking at cars.
Wasn't any of these, but LOOK AT THEM ALL!!!
Ah, here it is....But did we buy it?....You'll have to come back for tomorrow's installment.
Checking the compression.....To be continued...
Holiday Inn in Asheville, NC (covered parking, yay!)....(and isn't the 355 small!)
Eating Snickers bar....IN A FERRARI!
Um, fixing the temperamental italian sports car (blown fuse for cig lighter - GPS sucks too much current?)
On the way to Deals Gap. Holy how, this place is pretty!
Smokey Mountains are smokey.
He better remember this!
Amazing scenery. (I stopped to free-solo this bit)
This is a really nice place to go for a drive.
Still can't believe it.
From NC into Tennessee. "Tail of the Dragon". Sorry, I was too busy to take pics after this. You HAVE to drive this one day.
Some pics taken by a few of the many professional photographers staked out around Deals Gap.
We lost our race with the sun again. Spending the night in Memphis. Chris and I shared a rack of ribs on Beale St.. Forgot camera. Sorry.
Day 4 (I think...my brain hurts). This is the parking lot of the Hampton Inn in Memphis. We had level 4 to ourselves!
Leaving Memphis. Cool pyramid thing, and the bridge over the Mississippi (which was "shining like a National guitar"...but we didn't go to Graceland).
Stopping for lunch...
...at the Dixie Cafe! Yum.
After-lunch nap for Chris. Wish I could have napped all the way through Arkansas.
Holiday Inn in OK city. Nervous about the car...
So we parked it next door, right under our window. I'm looking at it now. Don't think I'll sleep much. Tomorrow - home!
An early start on Sunday morning.
"Welcome to Texas" is what it would say if it were in focus.
We stopped at this little-known steak house in Amarillo. They really should do a better job of advertising. (The first sign for this place is in Arkansas!)
Yup, smells like Amarillo!
"Welcome to..." you get the idea. My camera is sick.
Our first good look at home from 285. I might have gone slightly over the speed limit on this stretch.
A Ferrari BEHIND an infinity. As usual. (Fuzzy pic 'cos camera is sick)
I'm so glad cars don't have feelings.
Dirty car is dirty.
