Tessa navigates the trail
Tessa strikes a pose
Up the Moose Staircases
Alertin to something
Enjoying the view
Tikko posed in this exact same spot last time we hiked the Pemi. He must really enjoy the outlook. Today it is darker, but we did have a few hours of sunlight.
Notice the yellow blanket of birches in the valley
Tikko waits for Tessa
Yawn... Tessa, you're taking too long. Come up here.
There's one spot on the way up Liberty that is very tricky for the dogs. A slanted landing after a steep, high jump and above a cliff. I had to take Tessa on the 'dog trail' that went around it, but Tikko navigated it, no problem and met us at the summit. Here he comes down after enjoying the view from Lincoln. He seemed a bit put out that we didn't join him on top.
Ahh. What a great view, and not as hot today!
Oh, dear. Not this again, you are a very bad owner. I don't like hiking 30 miles in one day. I am just a backyard breeder German Shepherd dog.
On Lafayette summit
Running amid the Krumholz on the Franconia Ridge Trail
This is one fo the sillier photos I've ever taken. Tessa's expression is priceless. She's saying 'ohh, there's a great smell, let me sniff....ugh'. Tikko's saying, yup, I own this trail now... I've done it FOUR times!
Yo, Whas up. got any chicken for me?
This Quebecois trail runner kicked our collective butts. He helped me run the ridge, but he sure was a fast one. Notice how light he is travelling. One smart Canadian.
Tikko represents for us against the trail runner. He could keep up if it was just him and him.
In the quiet between hikers on the Franconia Ridge Trail
Ridge runner dog
You can tell that Tikko is really enjoying the hike here.
Tessa has an enormous head from this angle. She looks tired. Notice the set of her ears.
Running into the mist on the far side of Lafeyette
Tikko has a new habit of stopping and letting me go ahead every so often. Here he is chilling in the wind. Soon he'll catch up and pass me.
So, we just keep going now, eh?
Give me the chicken. Yum. I'm hungry!
I'd like some chicken too, please. Don't forget about me. I'm your girl, remember?
Ahh. The alpine zone. Such a comfy landing for my weary feet.

A tired mountain dog.
Summit nose sniff.
Rockiest section of the trail. Very balanced
Sun has set.
Near Bond Summit
Sniffing the wind
Umm. What's that I smell? Moose?
Dogs and the full moon
Tessa and the full moon
Moon dog take two
Tessa lies down as the moon rises. Oops. We'll be hiking ten miles in the dark.
Tikko seems to enjoy being photographed
Here doesn't come the sun. Here comes the moon
Tikko's in the zone.
Sunset clouds. They were much pinker in real life
