Santa Barbara trailhead in the Pecos, near Dixon, el. 8900 ft.
David and Brian study the route.
There seems to be some confusion.
The long climb up to treeline.
Nobody was bold enough to venture inside this unconventional mountain cabin.
Burial at 11,500
Heading up the ridge toward Jicarita.
It is not clear why David continuously peered toward the heavens while reviewing the map.
First view of Jicarita, which David says translates to "little tea cup."
Looking over toward the Truchas peaks.
Getting closer and cloudier.
Final ridge to the summit.
Snow in NM on July 31.
Me below the summit.
Summit area, el. 12,835.
Heading off the summit.
The ridge beyond Jicarita.
The clouds really started to build after we departed the summit.
Occasionally, we ran.
Even though we were a bit off-course at the time, the highlight of the run came when we encountered this furry friend.
He was eying David from the outset.
He walked right by us. Crazy.
After cooing at the sheep, David had to book down the mountain. It was also starting to storm.
Then it stormed a lot.
The odyssey of the map was finally over...as was the run. 20 miles, about 5200 feet of gain.
