Crossing the Pecos River just after starting at Jack's Creek Campground.
Entering the Wilderness at Irongate.
First aspens en route to the open meadows of Hamilton Mesa.
The higher I ran, the yellow-er they became...
After a bit, I popped out onto the Mesa.
Looking across the Wilderness at the Truchas Peaks.
My best smile.
After running a few miles on the Mesa, I turned west on the Larkspur Trail.
It was my fist time on the Larkspur, and I was not disappointed...
At the bottom of the Trail, I recrossed the Pecos.
there it is now...
then I undertook the long uphill slog to Trailrider's Wall and Pecos Baldy Lake (el. 11,500)
nearing the top...
Hamilton Mesa looks far away...
Pecos Baldy...ready for winter.
From there, I enjoyed another 7 miles or so of nice, easy (mostly) singletrack.
this was key...
