That was our 9'3 wind-surf toy in 1978,
A friend of us, Batron, made this nice drawing about a very bad storm we had in the Gulf of Biscay with enormous walls and a genttle force 10..
We worked many years on a personnal boat-design program, in MS-Dos QuickBasic. This hull is a try, to see if it works in real ! The transparent hull let us see the water lines, even in angle: very efficient !
This is our first boat, Micromegas 1, 1983. The concept was very simple, three surfing guns, no center board, no-nose. We discovered all the coasts of Spain, Portugal and Marocco and many islands in the Canaries, living only in plastic bags for one year
In Galicia, Spain 1985
1986 in Lanzarote, Canarias
Micromegas 1 in CONTIS, 1983
After landing in the Canarias, we decided to build the Micromegas 2, 4m20, all Oregon pine.
The start from France in Capbreton, 1994
Starting from our sandy beach of CONTIS, we discovered America FOR THE FIRST TIME after 11months of sailing and exploring around the Atlantic and 11000 nautic miles...
With just the smallest Sextant of the world, the Davis Mark 3 and a watch...
no radio, no distress beacon, no life raft, no engine
Micromegas 2 under sail in Puerto Rico, 1996
We reached Fort Lauderdale one month later with 40$ in the pocket, and we lost the boat there...
We take a little break in the Exuma's islands, Bahamas 1996
After the M2, we are building a wonderful paddle-board in red-cedar: 2500 copper nails and 25 frames !
That's it ! 1997
Now, it is the time to try the Micromegas 3 in the ocean.
We will do it from France to the West indies with not one navigation instrument and no charts...
Our beautiful outrigger in Contis, our beach in France. 2002
The boat must be beautiful, so we decided to have a nice Lug-rigging
This time, 2006, we had to try another Quick-Basic program just to shape a nice Dory, cause we love the storys of the Grand-bank and the fishermen of the past.
MICROMEGAS IV 2007
Simple is wonderful !
We we arrived in the West Indies, 2003.
The Argos beacon at the back prouved that we stayed the last ten days of the crossing at +/- 15 nautic miles accuracy on the latitude of the target, "La Désirade"
WITH no compas, no watch, no book, no chart...
And no radio...
Happiness in Antigua, 2003 !!!
a 25m hull...
Have you seen the wooden model in emmanuel's hands ?
This is the concept in mathematics. MS-Dos QuickBasic 4.5 transfered with a text file into CAO
Are you curious ? This is the concept of Micromegas 5, 4m96 She's nearly ready... The news will be on Facebook on Maximilien Berque, or Emmanuel Berque.
No drift (only 20 cm),
no centerboard !
Micromegas 5 on anchor, main sail on first rif.
