picture at night, not sure why I uploaded this as it ain't pretty but it is outside the back of my room :D
second picture from the balcony, just across the street. Looks weird with this one illuminated garden thingy.
bread supplied with my first dinner in SD :D
This is shark, pretty pretty tasty... Place is named "world famous", a name which they exploit heavily ("world famous wines" on the card, "world famous food" on the door etc).
trying a closeup of the food. Yeah, doesn't work that well :D
early in the morning or late in the evening, I'm not sure ;-)
yeah must've been after sunset, I went to bed shortly after that...
This is the view from the stairs before my room - pretty nice waves huh.
again the conference room.
As the conference is in the computer department building, you can expect devices like these. 4 huge screens and a camera which follows sounds. I was snapping my finger to make it focus on me here... If you put your hand in the red square (top-right pic) it records an image which will be shown on a website (see right-under screen). The green is the face- and arms tracking...
The trunk of Jeff's car after we went on a shopping spree for the conference. And there's more food in the back seat ;-)
Frank & me on Friday morning
Jeff - work work work...
Interesting & weird girl at the banana bungalow. She's been to the baroeg in Rotterdam (NL) (and so have I). World is small... Next to her Red.
ppl started to arrive later that day. Frank is blurry here as he put on his cool sunglasses - he doesn't want to be in a picture without them as that would substract from his coolness factor.
Shortly before I went on a stroll, a guy working at Banana Bungalows told me about a brain surgeon and filosofy book writer who tends to skate on the road before the beach, with clasical music on and a big grin on his face, skating on one foot as long as he could. When I saw this guy and heard loud clasical music I knew I had to take a picture...
Red, the guy I was talking about in the previous pic and me on the beach...
And again more ppl have arrived. It's getting a bit late now. Oh and Troy broke my sun glasses while pretending to hug me!
This is a drink I bought - I expected (from the description) it would be some kind of juice, but it's just like all soda's here: sugar water with artificial color and taste. Horrible. I trew away most of it then decided to take this pic before I emtied the rest of it in the sink...
Chani being eaten by william...
Bille and Troy
our dragon (*chani*) welcoming ppl.
I almost managed to catch Till playing with William but he quickly went back to his "I'm so cool" pose...
Bille teaching us
Till and Alexandra with their final slide: you can be whatever you want, just try!
eean & me having dinner (mexican food)
The mexican food we had... I still doubt any mexican would even think about eating this but everyone reassured me it was authentic. Yeah, right.
Red Stripe! Our favorite Jamaican beer! unfortunately it's the export type, which... Well, as someone here put it: "In the Jamaican supermarket you had these two piles, one empty, where the Red Stripe used to be, and one full with Red Stripe Export..."
Arthur in action
Till showing how you can give relaxed talks
Justin told everyone how and where to get into contributing, even if you're not a C++ wizzard.
William looking cute. Last year he was still 'in development' while at Camp KDE in Jamaica...
That's my hat! William surely looked better with it than I did :D
The gang preparing presentations and mingling with the local crowd (while finishing my 1.75 litre bottle of rum. It was empty at the end of the night so saturday we bought two)
bille showing he might not be as cool as Till (who is?) but he can hold his own!
there they are...
Dragon! Chani didn't like being Kate much, I believe, but it does look cute...
church on the beach - free service... I sat down for a while, listened in. Interesting to see my ideas about religion in the US being confirmed. Nice ppl, though.
Romain demoing KDE apps on windows (yes, that's plasma replacing the Win 7 desktop)
info poster about Camp KDE on the door of the conference room.
Aaron Reichmann in his Dragon suit!
Chani putting on her costume.
Kate trying to fly, Konqi watching in amazement.
What a cute couple they make...
Blauzah showing off the free t-shirts she brought.
Aaron seems so small in this huge suit...
Chani talking about Plasma Activities. Lots of interesting small details.
Vegetable snacks with sausages and cheese.
troy, chani, frank and of course some rum in there...
james & me...
on the beach at night
walking up there!
Rian and Frank
Aaron in his brand new Frologic t-shirt
Get your flu shot at the supermarket...
Aaron has this tendency to bring hot blondes to KDE meetings... That's Katie back there. Keep up the good work, Aaron!
guys & girls hard at work!
Me making pictures at the brewery of the group prompted Troy to picture me...
And of course Helio had to follow that up...
he's got some explainin' to do :D
That guy was a good speaker... We thought about bringing him with us to qualcomm, all the jokes about beer and other stuff would certainly keep the mood up...
oh and how they listen...
yes, they have advanced IT, and once they figured out we were geeks they told us aaaalll about it.
pretty pictures! this is a nice big touchscreen... No multitouch, I believe, but still nice :D
This can hold enough beer to drink 4 pints a day for 60 years... In other words, enough for one or two KDE meetings!
what can I say.... They have beer...
Ah yes, and they have food.
my salad (wasn't that hungry)
real hacker food.
yes, we had spaces reserved for us!
nice huh ;-)
doesn't jeffie look sharp?
Troy simulating an ogre.
me being content with myself... As usual.
The Great Notmart willing to join me on a photo!
Our wednesday super surpise! There was wade!
After jumping him all he explained how he came to be (here).
Group photo after we had some drinks (juice, mostly)
morning, before we left for the university. it rained like crazy but that's hard to see on this pic... just move on to the next photos and things will become clear.
wet ppl and strange plants from the sea...
didn't I say it did rain? It sure did...
and california, or at least our neighboorhood, is NOT prepared for it.
then again, having a river where the street used to be - hard to prepare for.
in a reasonably dry moment, the university however was quickly saturated with student life ;-)
oh 8 weeks and 1 year... cute contest!
the winner (imho)
gosh you'd eat em...
Jeff took command. "Listen up!"
parents playing with kids. who said this was a geeky conference?
one end of the table: parents and kids. Other end: censored.
morning sun & sea
that stuff is weird...
and here it is: banana bungalows!
A quick peek inside.
chani and me
chani & frank
and to finish it of: frank & me. Yeah, pretty much everyone else already left...
So wen went on a shopping spree, and bumped into this weird poodle in the levi's shop. Aparently a german poodle, but our german (frank) was really astonished...
I eat pretty much all of it.
which didn't agree with me unfortunately.... Still, it was nice food.
oh and yes, there was cheese cake. Of course. New York style.
coffee and chani had chocolate cake.
saturday morning: a salad! couldn't eat more than half of it...
food at the busstop. Finally got some sunday night.
waiting for bus
chani leaving me all alone...
so I had a walk
and found this guy directing the waves (?!?)
and these ppl entertaining the public
then suddenly wade showed up, and he and molly took me on a tour, ending up here with a beautiful view of San Diego.
light is a bit screwed up, it wasn't dark yet...
see! I was there!
screwed up light again...
later that night we went to see these cute animals.
weird story there: they sleep at a spot initially meant for children. But when they decided to sleep there, well, what attracts more tourists, annoying kids or cute seals?
And we finally had a great dinner in a very fancy place.
fancy, as I said.
next morning: SUN!
