The 3rd floor was all-a-glitter in Mardi Grad/ Carnivale flavor.
Anyone need some beads?

It's the Ross/ Kanye "Jeudi Gras" remix.
Note to self - use an iron next time!!
Loretta's made good use of the costume table.
If you want a seat at the "Golden Coconut Game" later on, you better fill out your "Jeudi Gras" themed word game.
Tanika's definitely got the flair for this event!
Joe, Jamie and Tobias represent SMO-SEC.
Doug has definitely got into the Carnivale spirit!
You can be assured that Julie always comes dressed in theme.

Karen put together an amazing ensemble band for her "Jeudi Gras" performance.
Danny and his wife Veronica were enjoying the tunes out on the deck.
Karen's band played a nice mix of New Orleans jazz, Brazilian and reggae tunes.

As the short film "Life After Facilities" screened in Catalina, The Karen Grant Band took a well-deserved break.
After the screening, it was time to turn in the word games...
...and try your luck with the King & Queen cakes.
We somewhat broke with tradition and had both "King" and "Queen" cakes. There were two babies hidden - later leading to prize packages for the coronated Jeudi Gras King and Queen.
"Okay, now - NO using your fingers!"
Looks like Jane's got a hold on this one!

The Karen Grant Band rocks!
After the band, it was time for a little game we like to call "Golden Coconut."
The first order of business was crowing Queen Loretta and King Eric!
Looks like they enjoy their prizes!
The "Golden Coconut" game is really just "Hot Potato" but with golden coconuts.
Why golden coconuts?
Well, the traditional Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans were popularized by the Krewe of Zulu in the early 1900's - who threw golden coconuts out into the parade routes to shake up the scene.
Previously, Mardi Gras had been more of an elitist affair - for debutantes and such. That is certainly not the case these days.
Sarah was the host of the rowdy "Golden Coconut" game.
Now, you didn't think that we would use REAL golden coconuts, did you?
We had to speed up the game with 5 different coconuts in the circle.
Now those are some beads Jasmine!!
As the circle got smaller and smaller, the game got more and more frantic.
Getting down to the nitty-gritty here.
They may have been stuck with the golden coconut - and out of game - but Eric, Claudia and Tobias are drunk - so it is all okay.
The final go-around...
Linh is one of the final three winners!!
...and yet everyone was a winner!
Suprisingly, carnivale samba dancers popped out of the back of the room!

After Karen finished off her set - she joined the dancers in Catalina!
Malaika seems unsure of her moves?
Anna is properly masked for the occasion.
Now that's a lot of feathers!
Malaika looks right at home in this get-up!
Okay, the conga line was a little cliche...
Liviu steps in line...
Carnivale is actually the whole season leading up to "Mardi Gras" and is celerbated in countries across the Caribbean and South America.
The samba - celebrated in competitions leading up to Fat Tuesday - is a particular musical expression of the Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro.

Showgirl Sarah shakes it at Jeudi Gras!
The revelry continues...
Tony was also an honorary king for the night!
"Jeudi Gras" is really just an excuse to wear silly masks and look dorky!
Um, there's gonna be some clean-up involved in this somewhere...
Fransini is laughing at my moves - and I don't blame her.
The drummers and dancers really put on a good show!
Tanika was getting her Brazilian groove on.
Congrats to the organizers of Jeudi Gras!
