PVC pipes, 2x4s, and power tools all ready to go at 4pm on Friday.
Visible in background: Valdés' outdoor office (PVC/tarp structure, desk, laptop, lamp).
Loading in progress...
Valdés made the photographer (hello, I'm Merlin!) some of his amazing improv'd energy food: seasoned ramen, buttered toast, and maple syrup.
Outdoor office also equipped with speakers, for the necessary ambient dubstep.
Skate-Tar in progress (I built much of it in the back of the bus, waiting for Noam and Amanda to get back).
With movable bridge! (and Angry Amp)
Now with 1 piezo on the bridge, 2 on the back (1 underneath the bolts on each end).
4:15 pm: Noam is distressed by the bus's lack of seatbelts (or attached seats). Valdés: "Your seatbelt is the fact that we weigh a lot, and WE'LL just keep going."
Cardboard loaded up and ready to go!
4:35 pm: The castle base (strapped to roof) gets snagged on a tree, and part of a leg breaks off. Noam is characteristically unflappable.
4:40 pm: Bus transmission is making "new" sounds.
A view of the bus's interior, Valdés, Amanda, and Noam reporting. Shortly hereafter, Noam begins singing "Bad Bromance".
Noam, Pondering (whether or not we're all going to die of carbon monoxide poisoning)
BUS IS FUBAR
4:50 pm: We will pull into a gas station and recalculate.
What to bus happen?
Valdés find out!
Find out more!
Bus expresses resignation
Broken teeth on gear :(
Noam buys a round of Ruffles, for morale!
7:55 pm, Henry Ford Museum: Hey guys, where's the base?
Back home to Ann Arbor. Merlin has successfully driven something larger than a pickup. We have all learned a life lesson: rent U-Haul first.
Sunday! The world is grand!
