Sunnyvale on a Saturday morning
You have the whole place to yourself!
Closest approach to work
... and it's still empty heading off campus
The dish from up on Sand Hill
SLAC off to the right
and looking ahead
it's a snake!
Whiskey Hill Rd
a large wooden salmon
Kings Mountain Rd -- probably the most pleasant climb up
The top -- where it gets interesting.
2 miles of loose...
Then it mellows out for the last two miles of dirt.
It was really fun after the first couple miles of sheer terror.
the trailhead on the ocean side. Bike is looking a little dusty.
Higgins Canyon looking back
and looking seaward
Primary objective achieved-- Francis Beach
food & family time
After lunch, ready to go.
Turning back east, a water stop at a historic park
This is the old train station that used to be near the beach. Not sure what it's doing here, but it looks good.
Back to the trail head.
... what was I thinking?
In the words of the great American novelist Theodore Geisel...
"it's a great day for up!"
even the bike is starting to hate me at this point.
Really, what was I thinking?
at least the view is pleasant
And finally at the top again. It is literally all downhill from here.
Central Expressway at 4:30pm on a Saturday.
... and home again. 67mi (8 of it off-road), 8600' of climbing.
