Leaving the Santa Barbara CG and heading to that ridge in the distance
A nice wild river running right alongside most of the day
Looking off the side of the bridge
Deb and Marley on the other side of the bridge, Gibbs is attached to my hip
Marley looking at something on a beautiful sunny day in Northern NM
So green here!
A tunnel of Aspens
Wildflower meadow, one of many
We headed left to the Divide
Deb and Kevin coming up behind me
The SB Divide
We took the 5 mile route, so 2 miles less on the Divide, but 2 miles more in the forest
Deb n' Marley
Deb insisted on taking my photo
Finally some snow for the pups!
Water everywhere from the melting snow
More snow now above 11K
Water, wind, Hermit Thrush and high country, it doesn't get any better than this
Cairns with poles guide the way to the Divide
It was a grunt at times, we did hill repeats on Pajarito ski slope yesterday, so the climbing muscles didn't want to go...and we were nearing 12,000'
Cornice of snow up on the Divide
A poled cairn marks the way now that we're above treeline
Kevin having a great day
Hearing rumbling of thunder
Looking at some plain in the far distance, maybe the Las Vegas (NM) area?
Gibbs and Marley stick close to Deb with the storm rumbling overhead...after seeing several lightening strikes up on the ridge, we decided to turn around and save it for another day.
A snow melt lake up high... We're on our way back down the way we came.
Many stream crossings.
Bones from some elk
Just to give an idea of it's size....could also be from a cow.
Kevin wanted to take the skull, but it was a bit too heavy to carry for 10 miles.
A major carving in a tree at a campsite. Something tells me alcohol was involved.
Lots of flowers in the lush area of New Mexico
Marley sticks close to her mommy's side
Almost back now as we side up along the river
The bridge again
24 miles in 8 hours of good Hardrock training
