Runners gathering around 6:45 am at JT's house
Coloradans Running Ultra Distances
Activity inside the house
Awards and map
Rick Hessek left and Garry Harrington, right
Off we go!
KZ looking back at me, we're ready to go...but are waiting on Deb who's still in the house
Yuck road start, but it got better
Moon over sun in Manitou Springs
Line of runners on the ridge above us, a couple of switchbacks up
You can barely see our shadows...Deb, Garry, KZ and I stayed together the whole day, it was great!
Nice color in the early morning light
Course was marked incredibly well for a fat ass event
We bounced around with the woman all day
Garden of the Gods in the distance....that's where we return through.
Deb and Garry up ahead
Deb coming up a steep one.
The theme of the day was Hardrock pace...walk the ups and run the downs
Garry with Pikes Peak in the distance
KZ and Deb coming up behind me on a road stretch through MS.
Through the cemetery
Awesome MS track....I could live here!
Some dirt single track
Manitou Springs with Garden of the Gods in the distance
The dreaded Incline
Up and back down Red Mountain was part of the 50K route
Nearing the top, KZ hitting on that woman ;-)
Garry and Deb up top
Pikes Peak in the background, the incline on the right...we go up that next.
Looking around from on top of Red.
The true summit of Red
Heading back down...the 8am group coming up.
Is that guy checking out my wife?
The Incline up ahead http://www.manitouincline.net/
About 2000' climb in a tad over a mile, it was a ball buster, took me 35 minutes.
KZ and Deb
8am group catches us again
Chris Boyack (fellow Goat teammate in green), Dakota Jones and Scott Jaime (white hat) just before the Incline
Runners starting up the Incline
Deb in the parking lot before we start to climb
Garry heading up just ahead of us
Someone lost their keys!
Kz next following Garry...Deb pondering.
This guy was "running" up the cog rail ties!
No wonder he was running up!
Grunting up, trying to pass as many as I can now
Looking back down the steep Incline
Garry summits seconds behind me
There she is again!
KZ grunting up the final few feet
After the Incline, we continued to climb
Now into the snow, deep in places
Some nice downhillin'
Snow is deep and it's cold in here
Deb, Garry and KZ
...and they did! 45-10!
Ugh, deep snow...
Kevin had a blast all day
This footing was horrible
J-pipe that I always see in Steve Bremner's photos
Yay, some downhill dirt to run in!
Halfway aid station...
...water was all gone for us back of the packers.
Heading into Waldo Canyon
Some nice shady single track
Some Boston folks we ran into...
I am from Boston ;-)
Meghan Finnesey and Garry
Nice single track
Rampart Range Road...about 6 miles to go, almost all downhill.
Because I had to go pick up the dogs, Garry and I hammered down this road to take care of that and to save time. We probably ran 5 miles downhill in 7 mpm pace and my legs feel it today.
The road wound around
Looking to the flat eastern side of Colorado Springs
Entering GoG, there were some interesting rock formations that I tried to photograph while running fast with Garry.
