Car parked at the top of Tunnel Springs Rd and ready to go
I think we need to worry more about the ice!
Icy trails right from the start
Poof, snow and ice gone!
That white peak to the left of center is Redondo Peak, 11,400+' and is across the road from our house, about 71 miles north by road.
Good running in spots
No one had been up here since the last storm
Easily knee deep in places
Some Ravens hovering above
Redondo again in the distance
Sangres in Santa Fe
Knee deep powder
Kevin took this shot of me trying to get through the snow, we turned around soon after this
Kevin's prints ahead of me, I was trying to convince him we needed to turn around, he wanted to go a little further.
KZ having a fun day in the Sandias, but he didn't get to see the top, maybe in another month
Me near the Penasco Blanco trail intersection, where we turned around.
Near here I stepped off the trail to pee and went almost up to my crotch in snow, very deep off the trail. We heard there is 60" up higher.
Kevin magically appears on the trail
Got much better (and warmer) down lower
Still some ice to be careful of, but we wore our Katoola Microspikes, which helped a lot.
KZ coming up behind me
It really is a nice trail! Nice gentle downhill for 6 miles...12 from the top!
Had some fun with this video of us running down, it ended before I though it did...camera must have filled.
