The Automated Mail Payment Processing System, aka, "The Magic Money Machine," is an innovative way for the San Bernardino Superior Court to efficiently process thousands of payments that are received by mail daily.
All mailed-in payments are now delivered to one location where four Account Clerks open and categorize the payments into those requiring manual processing and those that can be processed through automation. Processing, balancing and correcting rejected documents are performed by these clerks.
Work previously performed at eleven locations, by seventeen employees, is now processed by a machine and four clerks, at one central location.
Taking advantage of equipment currently available and adapting it to a specialized industry such as the Court has improved efficiency and the ability to provide the public with prompt transaction recording.
Payments are now applied to customer cases on a more timely basis, thus reducing the opportunity for "false" delinquencies.
Through centralization and mechanization of the process, thirteen clerks in the district courts can now spend more of their time assisting the public versus working on clerical activities.
