Getting the pieces ready for lamination
board buddy setup for table saw
ripping walnut, ash and mahogany
strips for the shaft
laying out the pieces to see what will work and look good
I need to get the right width
Finally got the width!
My jig for banding the shaft
bending and gluing the shaft. I used PU glue
tons of spring back after the steaming
some of my strips are bowed...
one way to clamp it while planing
gluing up the strips
2/3 of the laminates on the paddle
starting to shape the paddle
clamping the paddle laminations
The rough shape with excess glue
Shaving it down with an apron plane and spokeshave
A little damn jib, for pouring an epoxy tip
The epoxy tips is poured and curing
just needs some finishing touches
Still have to finish the grip
This is what I'm starting with
finally done! I sprayed it with wr-lpu
She's a beaut
The paddle looks good and paddles nicely. Perhaps it's a bit heavy but it's not too bad. Maybe an extra 100g.
It is about a 13º bend
I loved working with the mahogany (the lighter brown).
The grip feels pretty good, but perhaps it's a bit big.
