Pan (Sumner Silverman) is a goldsmith, uber wax carver and maker of cool things. See his work at www.sumnersilverman.com
Erotix starts out as a drawing on graph paper. She was inspired by Fritz Lang's robot in the film Metropolis.
Smoothing the wax with a jewelers wax file.
The drawing is cut out with scissors.
The drawing is being scribed on the smoothed wax.
Outline for cutting the wax.
Continuing to cut the wax.
The wax is cut with a jewelers #3 sawblade. No need for a round blade.
Drawing or cartoon is placed on the wax.
Cartoon is secured with tape.
Pan's homemade tool begins to prick tiny dots to create the outline on the wax.
Detail of cartoon being pricked.
Outline of cartoon is complete.
Left side, the pricked cartoon; right side the outline in wax.
Detail of cartoon on wax.
Wax outline has begun.
Moving around the head. Jewelers saws are really precise.

Refining detail and adding melted wax to create bazoombas!
Another shot of adding wax with the Foredom wax tool. Great tool by the way.
Erotix is becoming more detailed.
Embedded in silicon rubber mold, a bronze Erotix is embedded and waiting to be released.
The back of the rubber mold showing the Man.
Front of mold, back of mold and one completed.
The rubber molds where wax will be injected to create more pendants. The indentations at the bottom will be deepened and widened.

These are the mold vulcanizers. Heat and pressure create the rubber mold.
Two views of how large a rubber mold can be. The small inset is for Erotix, about 4 inches by 3.
The exposed reverse side of the rubber mold. By peeling the mold downward at the stem or "sprue" will release the wax.
From left to right, a released wax, injected wax in a mold, the empty mold and a full closed mold.
Piles of wax pendants waiting for the sprues to be clipped.
The wax trees are built sideways.
The "tree" station. Waxes are built on a "tree" in order to cast many at a time.
I'm looking over the shoulder of the tree being built. They are built upside down and then inverted.
Building the tree and filling them with Erotix pendants.
Placing the pendant onto the tree.
A heated rod creates a spot for the wax to be attached.
The hot spot ready for inception.
Trees ready for the flask. When they are cast, they will be upside down in a flask with ceramic plaster and heated. This is called the burnout.
The flask with a tree inside. Liquid ceramic clay is poured into the flask which hardens. The rubber bottom is removed and the wax is burned out.
A tree and a flask.
A tree of beautiful pendants waiting to be removed.
The man is at your back ready for resin inlay. We made 500 this year.
Full shot of the reverse side.
The swirling ceramic vibratory finisher. Ok, just don't go there.
A GIANT tumbler filled with stainless steel shot to burnish and polish Erotix.
