We're Ready..Are We There Yet?
Know what island this is?
What island is this?
Is this Sopers Hole?
Tortola municipal services area?
Tortola, What bay?
Tortola? Cricket field?
Is this the Moorings base?
Looks like the storms that dropped 10" of rain on Tortola a couple of days ago are all gone!!
YEA...Wheels Down At Tortola
Trellis Bay From The Airplane..Can you just let me off here?
The Obligatory “we're here” picture

"The gang" Maureen, Terry, Frank, Robin, Susan, Curt aboard the "Carol K" 44.3 Moorings boat...we stay on board the boat in the marina that night...
Fri 4/27 AM All briefings over!!..motoring out of the marina!
Don't need this dockline for a while...let's stow it away
Ahhh...red on the left and we are leaving...OK
Leaving Moorings Base..Robin
A beautiful motor sailor in the channel
On the way to Leverick...first day out
Curt, and Nick of the Leverick Marina..He was so disappointed that the confetti shooter he had ready for us didn't work..what a great guy..First night out, dock waiting for us at Leverick
Leverick Bay welcoming bird
Great snorkeling right off our boat at Leverick
It had to be done..the "I'm in the water with a Carib picture"
Susan in the water WITHOUT a Carib...what's with that?
Susan grabbed the floaty thing and a tether line
Curt's favorite day of the month...Three days before the full moon, an hour or so before sunset, the Sun and Moon are both 20 degrees above the horizon.....rising moon on my left, setting sun on my right..and we are in the BVI with beautiful weather to enjoy it!!
Carol K at dock in Leverick
View from boat at Leverick dock..ring side seat
This mooring at a dock is a whole lot more civilized getting out of the boat than into a dingy
Color everywhere...Susan at Leverick
Beautiful pool, beach, marina at Leverick
OK, take the picture, my drink is empty..gotta go refill
Chef Robin whoopin it up
Grillmaster Frank..it's all good
Art on wall at Dive Shop
Is Frank snoring, or looking at the stars?
Da gang..Robin, Maureen, Frank, Terry, Curt, Susan at Leverick before the dancers
And here come the dancers! It's Friday night
Looks simple enough
OK, it's starting to look not so simple
OK, now Maureen is gawking...how did he do THAT?
Air guitar on one leg 6' in the air
But she's so tiny...how does she hold herself up?
They both grap each other's stilts
Curt boggies with the Jumbies
Are you SURE you want me to grab your stilt and stand on one leg? Do you know how many painkillers I've had? I trust your balance better than mine.
Somehow that just looks wrong...Susan likes it though!
These people are on the ROOF!
Frank and Maureen with "the cast" of the show
Curt and Susan with the Jumbies
Back to the boat...there's that almost full moon
Sat 4/28 Our neighbor last night takes off for morning sail...charter boat from Leverick...anyone remember this boat?
Saturday morning..and a short sail today across North Sound to a second night at a dock...Bitter End..it was nice to have docks two nights in a row with such a short sail..very laid back
We docked the boat in time to make the morning run of the BEYC "snorkel barge". ..the best deal in the BVI..$10 per person..had heard about the snorkel trip on TTOL
We're headed out to snorkel...what a great view of the Bitter End beach
Our crew attending to just the 4 of us..now that's service!
After first snorkel..which was on the West end of Mosquito Island
We're at Statia Reef, Oil Nut Bay where a big resort is now being built...last picture of it pristene (This is Oil Nut Bay, correct?)
Cannon seemingly put there for the snorkelers to dream of pirate ship sinkings
An old ship's anchor..placed there?
I like boats..prop wash and all!
Taking a picture of Terry taking a picture
Curt says "take the picture" I'm running out of air!
Curt has mask ready to hand to waiting crew member on BEYC snorkel launch
The BEYC boat's boarding ladder desinged for snorklers easy boarding
Curt doing dolphin immitation
Susan dives for a better view
Hard to look through the disposable camera view finder..lucky shot that fish is in center of picture
Headed back to our boat...a large Mega Yacht has come in...That "little" sailboat at dock is our 44' Carol K dwarfed by the mega yacht, "Thirteen" behind us
Bitter End beach never disappoints
"Thirteen" moored stern to into Bitter End
"Now that's what I'm talkin bout"
First timers to BEYC Terry and Maureen
Art is functional
She's still rowing
Now that's a lot of brass!
What kind of flower is this?
Curt and Susan's obligatory annual BEYC picture
OK, another one
Sunset colors on BEYC docks
Frank "at ease"
The Carol K at BEYC dock with "the big boys"
Terry, Frank, and Susan at Bitter End, beautiful sunset evening
Another beautiful sunset to watch
She's a fine vessel, the Carol K
Sunset from BEYC docks
A few minutes later
Dinner is best served on a boat facing the sunset! After dinner Curt and Susan took the ferry over to Saba rock to poke around...beautiful place, and the bench that looks out over the ocean is great
Nice V-Berth..home sweet home for the week
Sun 4/29 8:00 AM start from North sound, easy sail to Anegada...coming in to Anegada right on the mark!! Christine's directions (Mooring staff at BEYC) always work. Heard she and her husband may retire this year. If so we will miss her..always enjoy hearing her stories about local people and news. I go to her chart briefings even though I don't need to hear the briefing. Basically just head 005 degrees magnetic and you can't go wrong..oh except the trees that used to appear square are growing taller and now look a little rounded.
Red on right..no problem
Hop a cab on an Anegada super highway
Past Anegada Beach Cottages
They look nice and clean
1'st stop - Cow Wreck
We made it
Par 3..lots of sand traps
Better have 2...don't want to run out
Wish I would have written down his name...anyone know his name? What a hoot.
Robin and Frank chillin
Not a bad view from the bar
Robin, Frank, and Terry at Cow Wreck bar
Painkiller assembly line
My kind of menu..drinks then desert!

There was some confusion over who ordered what...but it was all good
The Conch fritters were great for dippin.
Elegant dining at Cow Wreck
A solitary walk in paradise
I think I'll just sit here for a while
The obligatory small boat on sand picture

The new sidewalk at Loblolly
HGTV "Before" Snorkel and beach shop
Your handy builder owner..anyone know his name? I lost it.
The "after" picture..the new North Shore dive shop under construction
Loblolly hammocks have a sedative effect
Perfect temperature, soft breeze, shade, and plenty of hammocks
Let's put one of these at home
Geez...is everyone asleep?
Curt and Susan...we like it here
Do we have to leave?
A picture does not do this beach justice
Need a landscape camera
Takes 3 pictures for the whole beach
"Big Crowds" at Loblolly
Clear water in paradise
Some of the artwork
Guitar and rythm section...anyone know who they are?
What wonderful children..what a great place to grow up
OK, it's pretty rough here..wonder how things are at work today?
Sandcrab on sidewalk while waitig for taxi...big entertainment
"on the road again"
Wonder how long the shocks last on these vehicles?
What are they?
Animals take over basketball court
Almost got it centered..not bad for a bumpy ride
I assume this is a local person's home?
Whee...we're moving now
Know what this is?
Take the bus and leave the driving to someone else
Back to the boats from Loblolly
Take another one...oh well flash didn't work
OK, that's enough
Seriously..is a nice progression on the clouds
Potter opened his restaurant for just us! 6 people, 12 lobster halves ready for the grill
That ain't your Father's gas grill!
The annual "signing of the roof" at Potter's
Last year's is still there
And there was our crew from last year..Grog and Rhonda
P'tits Loups II was our boat name last year...there should be a rule against boat names that hard to say on VHF radio!!
And there is our boat and crew signatures from this year...I got teased for signing the year as 2006...too many painkillers already...oh well I fixed it
There we all are
OK, 2'nd view
They dropped a wad of cash on the dock and someone in our crew picked it up and got it returned it to them...they bought us some wine as a "thank you". This was the beginning of the "good karma" events...anyone recognize these nice people?
ARRR...getting ready for Michael Beans tomorrow night
Now that's "grillin"! And all that lobster for just us!
What a lobster! OK, dig in
Susan likes the lobster too..a highlight of the trip
Curt and Potter...he stayed open just for us..what a guy!
The crew and the feast
Maureen says "you've got to be kidding..this thing is huge"
I was hungry when I got here..leftover lobster in sack for tomorrow's lobster salad
Susan wearing Grandchild-made visor..thanks Haley!
Morning view of the Carol K..Going ashore to pay mooring fee..we realized that nobody had come around last night to collect the mooring fee, so to continue the good karma we went ashore to figure out who we needed to pay.
Neptune's Treasure.....thought we owed them money for our mooring ball but they said the color ball we had was not their mooring ball...maybe we'll do a land based trip some day and stay here a few nights.
Walking down the beach to find who we owed for last night's mooring ball.. "Lobster Hourse" restaurant/beach bar on the way
Terry got a chuckle out of the Sea Grapes
Another beach restaurant on our morning walk to pay the mooring ball fee
Mooring ball fee paid, at Anegada Reef Hotel, walked back to Neptune's where our dingy was and motoring out to boat...water view of Neptune's restaurant
Monday morning 4/30..We raised sail while still at mooring ball, and motor sailed out of Anegada..Terry at wheel sailing on way from Anegada to Marina Cay
Curt hit wrong button on camera and accidentally took a short video..this is not our boat but one just like it also sailing away from Anegada
This must be West Dog island off our port side as we round Scrub Island on starboard
Marina Cay beach from dingy/shuttle dock
The Marina Cay Ferry is running this year..moored at Marina Cay, on our way over to Trellis Bay for the afternoon
The Marina Cay Ferry speeding to Trellis
More boat wake..love it..hey, I think that's Michael Bean's boat in the center of the picture..Marina Cay fuel dock on left, and Marina Cay restaurant on right
I like free transportation
Two-beering it again at Trellis...we were going to do the Trellis full moon party at the end of trip, but decided to come back to Trellis from Anegada early in trip so we could hear Michael Beans
Aragorn's T-shirts...wish I remembered if I had that print in that color or not
They were packing up for going out of business
Getting a good seat for Michael Beans
Birthday, colors, great air, flowers what more could I want? A drink! go get the birthday girl a drink, slave
I'll just take a sip of her drink so it won't spill taking it back to the birthday girl
Now I'm happy...have a paikiller
View of Marina Cay (Trellis Bay in the background) before the Michael Beans show
Terry and Maureen .. where's the rum?
Susan's birthday, Michael Bean gave her the first rum shots that evening! Now that's going to be a stiff painkiller!
Rum shots for all!
Rum shot and a painkiller...ARRR
The birthday girl and hubby
Terry answered a trivia question and got in the line...MORE rum shots!
An old cardboard box + a plastic soda carrier + two feet = drum set Michael Bean style
Now there's some smiles...MORE RUM..ARRR!! Another office picture.. Curt, Susan, Michael Beans
This guy came up out of the audience to play wicked harmonica
Hi kitty...did you come over to see Michael?
Michael plays along as this guy gets serious on the harp
Concert over...let's go down to dinner
Long day Curt? WAKE UP!! Notice Caribean wallet
Sunrise view of Marina Cay from boat at mooring..all is quiet
Susan sleeping in..."wake me at noon if I don't get up"
Leaving Marina Cay Westbound past Trellis Bay motoring between Little and Great Camanoe
Tortola to Port, Guana Island and Monkey Point (Correct?) to Starboard
Rounding down to head along North side of Tortolla to shut off motor and a great sail
Small pocket beach on Tortola "across" from Monkey Point..??
Is this Lambert Bay?
Is this Josiah's Bay?
Had a GREAT sail along North side of Tortola, ducked into Cane Garden to weather a squall line that came across, and sailed over to Great Harbor, Jost Van Dyke
What a great spot for dinner on the deck
Frank enjoys chart plotting..he actually knows what he is doing.
An artist selling water colors
Both Susan and Maureen liked them
Put those water colors away for safe keeping
Tuesday night at Foxy's..everyone danced..beach, hgreat fun! Sampled most of the drinks on the menu.. Saw progress on the wooden boat, Endavor II, all hull planking is on, resin coat being put on, Volvo Penta motor is there..would love to see them flip it upright
Another mega yacht...in Great Harbor
Motoring out of Great Harbor
Wed AM 5/2 motored over to White Bay..very tight to get in there.. Wanted to go to Soggy Dollar Bar but may go via taxi next year from Great Harbor
Autopilot..gotta love it..sailing from Jost Van Dyke to Sopers Hole
Coming back from Jost, leaving Great Thatch to starboard..nice sail for reading
Hillside house (?) rounding into Sopers Hole
Quite a view...wonder if it can be rented? Not much of a beach though
They have a nice view of the boats coming in to Soper's
Wow...the loop on the mooring pendant is all frayed..let's let that one go.
There's a good mooring line, this will work
Couldn't tell from this picture but the winds were really whipping down "Soper's Canyon"...we moored down wind from the marina
Pretty hillside villas in Soper's.how DO they get the building materials up there to build those places?
A little shopping..went out back and walked down street...watched a telephone repair man on a ladder on a pole repairing a drop line to a house..all open wiring...lots of old fishing nets thrown about on pallets, old dingy's cast aside now covered by vines
Susan likes this store, and the pretty flower bed and courtyard
Some beauiful boats this year at Soper's..this one has some nice woodwork, others at the marina were just plan huge..up to 200'
Leaving Soper's..some nice villas on the hillsides, and all sorts of animal sounds!
This one must have a beautiful view at the end of the passage and Little Thatch
Bow spray shots...and when I switched from power boating to sailing years ago I thought I would not have that fun of bow spray..HAH!
View through the zipped down center section of the dodger
They'll come over here next...do we want anything? They off loaded their garbage but we're going in tomorrow anyway.
Nothing this time I guess, thanks!
Now that's my kind of kitchen
Last dinner on board
In the Bight, Norman Island.. we ordered hamburgers for lunch meals, but ate light at lunch so we ended up having burgers for dinner...worked out well
Sunset from the Bight
Oh no do we have to feed the sea gulls? Here we go
OK, that's enough, now they are getting frisky
See? told you so...
Terry and Maureen
Susan and Curt
Frank and Robin
We go ashore to tip a few
Great evening at Pirate's in the Bight..lights of moored boats
If there is a hammock, Frank will find it.
Curt likes chair in water
Group teambuilding event
Moon over the Bight was bright!
Curt and Susan in the moonlight...ah
Yee Ha..go away ladies, the men are taking over..Thursday morning, 5/3..got all packed below before we left the Bight so our only chores were to sail back to Roadtown and get in as much sailing as we can before noon.
Surprising how much boat speed we got on a reefed main.
Steady winds in the Sir Francis Drake Channel...great sailing day
Oh look...that looks like the Yachtshots person taking pictures
Yep, that's who it is! Amazing how she can control that boat and still keep 2 hands on the camera
Ah...we have right of way
This is nice...we have to go in?
Cross cockpit sheeting the jib sheet...just a little more
Let's just single sheet the jib to port
Terry had the helm the rest of the way back to Roadtown...nice sail
Rail meat...not that we need it..do we HAVE to go in?
Did we forget to raise the motor again? Oh well..
We're already coming up on Roadtown ahead...A bow wake like this, great winds and we HAVE to go in? It's only 10:45 and we have until noon...let's go past Roadtown and make a loop...these winds are just too nice to go in.
Don't even think about making me get up.
The crew Curt, Susan, Maureen, Terry, Robin, Frank, with the Carol K..luggage behind..geez is that all ours? To continue the "good karma" we did a very comprehensive checklist of the small boat problems with the Moorings guy that checked us in.
Curt had saved an article from a travel magazine about the Midtown Restaurant as having the best hamburgers in the BVI so we hoped a cab over there from the Moorings...the cab driver later took us to Cane Garden for our overnight stay.
This woman was the boss, cook, and head "get your butt in gear" person..what a great personality...did not get her name...anyone know?
Hi Curtis...my name is Curtis too!
Frank even puts HOT sauce on sandwiches.
Across from Midtown Restaurant
Next series of pictures are on cab ride over the top and down into Cane Garden Bay.
All 6 of us and all our luggage was in this Mitsubishi bus taxi..the motor was really winding out on the uphill grades.
And you could really smell the brakes on the downhill sections... WHEE!!
Guess the advantage in renting a car would have been to be able to stop at places like this. Great view and a cold one would have been nice.
I think this is Brewers Bay (right?) on road to Cane Garden
Winding back down to sea level to Cane Garden
There's Cane Garden Bay..home for the crew for the night, and for Curt and Susan for 3 nights
OK, I admit this is nice..I'm a little too hot and this A/C is good...I'll just rest a minute...we all napped for a while before heading down to Quito's for the evening
Nice swing at Quito's Ole Works Inn..for first night..before going over to Lighthouse Villas the rest of the nights
This is the same print that the crew bought for me painted by Quito
Got up from naps in time to see the sun go down in Cane Garden
Sunset shots at Quito's
Dinner at Quito's
We had tables along the balcony so we could watch Quito when he came on while we finished our dinners
These salads at Quito's were great
There he is!
Susan enjoying quito from the balcony
Quitp's smooth voice is so easy to listen to and his lyrics speak of compassion and love
Quito sings of love
Barefoot lady shakin it
Quito signing CD's for Terry and Curt
Quito signing CD for Curt
We all signed BVI pictures for each party in the crew
Trapped water from a stream feeding into Cane Garden makes a pretty picture...hey Susan, if we dig a little trench we can let the water out..(guy thought)
Combination clinick and Post Office...wonder if the postmaster is the nurse?
Susan read about this museum and we went to visit it in Roadtown...EXCELLENT pictures and information about early BVI...saw an early plot map of Tortola, and noticed that plot #91 on South East corner of Tortola was owned by "Rhymer"..assume an ancestor of Quito's family? We also met the owner of a shoe store next door..come to find out she is the chef in the evenings at the Loose Mongoose..heard about her family and her kids in college.
Driving piers into the ground across from the museum.. Don't know what's going in there.
Roadtown back street
After the museum we realized we were only a block away from the Midtown Restaurant so we went back for burgers and pasion fruit juice again.
DARN it...and I had her name...great lady
The remainder of the nights we stayed behind Ole Works at the Lightouse Villa's..up a VERY steep driveway
Our room...smallest of all of them at Lighthouse..all other ones are larger
Nice view and balcony
Hey Malcia...trim those bushes!!
Steps down from Malcia's rooms ...view from our room..steep!!
Great sunset views from our room
Good one..and I held the camera level
Malcia..Quito's Sister, and owner of the Lighthouse Villa's..out chatting with us in the evening
Small pool at Lighthouse Villa's overlooking Cane Garden Bay...small but very nice for entertaining next to the seating area and grill
Shallow end...bottom corners are squared off so you can stand at edge
The bar and grille provided by Lighthouse Villa's for their guests
Good groceries! Got fish at Bobby's Market in Cane Garden that day
Nice water fountain at Lighthouse..loved the beam work in the roof
The retaining wall doubles as the fountain basin
Breakfast in bed..Sat AM 5/5
BVI alarm clock
Tropical garden at Myett's
Hey honey..we could live here
We got a cab (Jeni) over to Brewer's bay. Wanted to see Icis Villas for possible stay some other time..TTOL'rs liked it
Finally...there it is...long walk back into the resort from the beach and road
Almost no people were there when we were there
HAD to go to Nicole's to have a burger n' beer.
Curt snorlkeling in Brewer's Bay...water was murky today but LOTS of fish
Those amazing birds dive for the fish I'm swiming around and always fly away with one in their mouth
Chicken family at Brewers
Our lunch buddy
Some local kids enjoyng Brewer's
We called Jeni to come get us from Brewer's and she took us to Nanny Cay
UPPP the hill
And back down the hill..in Jenni's car I felt more comfortable than in the Mitsubishi van...better brakes and power...plus Jenni drives fast...fun!
Nanny Cay is beautiful...nice looking hotel and grounds, more shops than Moorings...we could do this next time
The Catamaran Company's Lagoon 440 aft area..went to look at it to possibly rent one next year...VERY nice
Lagoon 440 Main cabin saloon
Lagoon 440 galley
Lagoon 440 forward tramps
Lagoon 440 boarding steps, port hull..note steps up to fly bridge
Room for skipper and 4 crew on fly bridge..great visibility..all lines available
Forward "couch" area forward
An "owners" version where one whole hull is one cabin, head and shower..only 3 bcabins in that arrangement
Owner's version head and separate shower beyond
A Carib to the first person to identify these flowers
What a cutie..looked like she wanted to take it out to paddle
Dinner reservations tonight at 8:00 at Myett's
Dinner was a great New York Strip steak, Conch soup, and salad...very good
Cooked to your wishes..great grill
Wine, Carib, and HOT sauce....it's all good
They said it was OK to feed him...how can you resist!?
Drummer at Myett's..
This guy on the keyboard was fantastic...reminded me of Rick Wakeman of the group "Yes"
Judy was our waitress. We had fun hearing about her family and kids in school
Judy the famous candle walker
She got Susan to try it...after Myett's we went back to Quito's for a while before calling it a night
Sunday 5/6 AM A local guy just sittin and relaxin
Kid's had written in the sand at Cane Garden..."Good Bye Beach" with a sad frowny face..
"We will miss you, I had fun"..so true!!
A local's road side eatery in Cane Garden..pretty good
Low key...just like the rest of BVI
Monday 5/7..off to airport that morning..There's our driver..Jeni that took us all over...she was great..so sweet..she lived in Washington for a while, distant cousin of Foxy
Relaxing outside before time to board at Tortola airport
Friendly security guy...even if he did nab the yogurt in my bag
Note that there are no people around in BVI security..that's not like DFW crowds!
Finally the aircraft is here..good thing we have a long layover in San Juan
Marina Cay leaving BVI...ah and we were just there a few days ago...next time..once again
Entertainment in the San Jaun PR airport...pretty good too!
Back home laundry time...but not that much gets packed to go to the BVI's so there's not that much laundry..I'm ready to go back already..back to work tomorrow morning!
