(1) Photos 1-4: Two Avon Redstarts with a 5x5' platform (plywood, with 2x4s and long rods); platform weights 80 lbs. Redstarts: 8’ x 4'4", 50 lbs, 661 lbs capacity, tube diameter 13.5". Photos 3-4: Redstarts being carried and pumped up. (2) Photos 5-8: Same boats are first set up, but with a NRS custom-made (and then modified) platform, which disassembles into small pieces < 3" long and weighs 50 lbs total. Three reinforced marine-grade plywood pieces, ca. 3 x 1', serve as the platform. With all the room in the two boats, this little space is enough for coring. By saving 30 lbs off the first set up, THIS IS THE SETUP TO BEAT. (3) Photos 9-11: NRS custom made tubes and frame. This design is packable, but it takes too long to set up, the tubes roll, and the corner dip into the water when more than one person is in one corner. (4) Photos 12-15: Two Innova Vagabon 2-person canoes with an 8x4’ wooden frame. Inflatables each weigh 38 lbs, cost ca. $1200, and have a 530 lbs capacity.
