"What the hell am I doing?"
Well, I have done this part before, so here goes...
At the first ledge. Hardest part of the climb physically. Mentally, well....
Tito showing me how to climb the second pitch.
And there he goes.
Paul! The other guy who kept me safe! VERY important. :)
Tito setting up protection.
Wait for it.... bracing with one leg against a tree, he is setting protection so that he can continue and Paul and I will be safe to climb.
And away he goes
Tito, pausing to ask how much rope he has to see how much past the 3rd rappel station he can go.
Paul, up at the tree, Tito, way up at the next tree. And me, hanging out on a ledge, watching the experts.
Ok, remember that tree where Paul was?
We are up at the next highest tree. Tito, after putting his shoes back on, as he was just hanging out for a while.
He is showing me what attaches me to this ledge about 300 feet up.
The crack over there is the next route. Maybe next time. :)
It is just beautiful up here. And we were the only climbers, what with 60% chance of rain that afternoon.
Oh yeah, still here. Paul at the next station. Tito is going to go past him up to the top to top-belay once I get to where Paul is.
Paul, slung in at the tree. Tito lead climbing the last pitch.
Still there mom!
I moved to the top of the tree to take pictures. :) The white and blue sling is the other thing that is keeping me there. Pay no attention to the slack.
It was a little precarious for me, so I left my camera attached. Even though it is shock proof, don't think it would last through that fall.
Paul and I, exchanging ropes and getting set up for him to climb and me to follow.
YAY!! This is the top. About 50 feet to the actual top, but you can just walk it.
Trying to get far enough away, while strapped to a vertical wall, to capture Tito, with feet! It wasn't easy as I was attached to the rappel station. Oh yeah, we rappelled down the next route.
Ok, in my viewfinder, Tito's face was visible. Oops. Sorry Tito.
Some of that route was wet.
looking down from rappel station 2?
And there I left a finger. We were waiting on Paul to rappel to where we were. So that all 3 of us can attach to the rappel station on the side of the cliff, while we pull the ropes down from the last one.
That ledge in the background is what we climbed up.
Here comes Paul.
Next rappel station. Again, just hanging out. I went second on all of them, so Tito and I were hamming it up while Paul was working his way down.
There are the feet!
Looking out over the valley.
Good thing Tito knows where the next rappell is! Can't find anything from up here.
Almost down. We had an actual ledge here.
There is the Great Arch in the distance. We are getting closer as we rappel down and to our left. Boy is rappelling sideways NOT easy to do.
Paul. Slung to a tree.
At the bottom! We made it!
Here is Paul.
Ok Mom. These are the guys who kept me safe all day. :)
There is the Great Arch again on the left. And the tree up and to the right is where we rappelled down.
Leaving the Mountain.
