Prunus caroliniana -- laurel cherry or cherry-laurel. A common, weedy, small evergreen tree native to the area.
Trillium gracile -- trillium or wake-robin. From Kisatchie NF unit SW of Natchitoches. These occur occasionally in damp deciduous woods.
Salvia lyrata -- lyre-leaved sage. A native plant with overwintering rosettes flat on the ground.
Phlox divaricata -- An on-site, native spring wildflower. There are lots of these at the VA Hospital grounds across town.
Gelsemium sempervirens -- Carolina Jessamine. A native climbing evergreen vine with early spring bright yellow flowers. These are on-site volunteers.
Cercis canadensis -- redbud. We are at the south edge of the range, and trees are short-lived (maybe 25 years pretty). A common weedy tree of fence lines. Ours are all volunteers on-site.
Cardamine bulbosa -- sourced from a ditch in northern Caddo parish, west of Blanchard.
Prunus mexicana, Mexican plum.
Senecio glabellatus -- golden ragwort. Another common wet ditch/lake margin plant. An on-site native.
Crataegus opaca, the mayhaw. From local seed.
Viola sororia -- Violet. The violet of the Shreveport flood-plain. On -site native.
Oxalis rosea An Asiatic species
Cercis canadensis -- redbud.
Hydrangea quercifolia -- oak-leaved hydrangea. Native, these are from seed from Caroline Dorman's, 1988.
Azalea hybrids that flowers spring and fall.
