First, dig a hole
Steel shutter to stop it collapsing in the sandy soil
Be prepared to make a mess of your grass
Apply internal bracing to stop it collapsing inwards
What could go wrong with these guys at the helm...
Dig deeper, banging the steel shuttering down as you progress
Don't expect to park on the drive while it's happening.
Or get access to your garage...
Cover base, leaving hole for sump & pump
Dig a trench to the road for the new three phase supply
Install reinforcing bars
Reinforce all round
All 4 sides & base.
Join that 415V three phase live, don't even turn it off !
Add some gloop to seal it
Space filled with sand to form sump
Pour that concrete, jiggle it with a petrol powered industrial vibrator.
Poke that vibe in to get it in all nooks and crannies
Flatten than base now over the rebar
Sparkly new three phase meter
Add wooden shuttering
Base & Rebar prior to lower half shuttering
Add more shuttering
Somehow fit shuttering and bracing to keep the sides up while pouring concrete
Add a fair bit of bracing, then pour that sucker
Wait and remove bracing
Just a moment longer
Tada ! Half a cast hole.
Cool hey !
Now add more rebar to strengthen top half
It's almost a wok of art !
All round of course
And BRACE, BRACE, BRACE again
Ready for pouring...
Ready for pouring
Tada again ! hole thing concreted.
Yes neighbours, we're building a DIVING POOL in our front garden
Bits of the mechanicals. Chains rated each at 20 tons (there are 4).
Unload the mechanicals
Car lift kit !
Hole with hydraulic pack in place
Anyone for a swim...
Add that ironwork
Side assembly with hydraulic rams
Build the lower platform in place
Lower the bits in, somewhat heavy !
Couple it all with the chains.
Yes, change the bathrooms at the same time !
Lower platform nearly complete
Lower platform lifted for the first time
Add the sheet floor and build the upper structure
Build the tray on to of the upper platform
Well 7 out of 8 the right size isn't bad !
This looks kind of heavy
Add the HONKIN great big bit of metal to cover the rams etc.
Taking shape !
Mark out the edge of the driveway, wife wants a bendy one
Short rebar shows level of driveway.
Ahah ! Cars in for the first time.
If I press this button, they disappear....
Just like magic !
Lift fully loaded....
View from UPSTAIRS, excuse the lobster !
Dehumidifier, heater tubes. Diagonal tube is drain from gutter round top.
More heaters (come on at 5C, ie never !)
Sump, with float activated pump.
Driveway, just 6500 tiles to go...
Tiles need to be thin on top of lift to save weight.
Yep, you guessed it, cut them all down to 25mm thick with a diamond saw :-(
Improvised jack for exhaust inspection
Bloody hell, we've done it !
