Bay Bridge from Treasure Island - and foreshadowing of the fog to come.
Low visibility on the eve of the 4th fireworks. Bummer. But on the other hand, this image has a certain charm.
Conservancy of Flowers, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Detail of a carnivorous plant in the Conservancy of Flowers (HOT wing!)
Butterfly on flowers
Green eyed butterfly with it's long, curling proboscis on my wife's camera.
Tea Garden Buddha
Humming bird and raptor! This brave little hummer buzzed this Golden Eagle(?). Apparently the hummer didn't need to worry as the raptor was more interested in the ground squirrels.
de Young Tower and two scultures. The yellow one is Chihuly
Scofflaw fireworks. Heavy fog meant none of the official SF fireworks (except these illegal ones) were visible from Treasure Island. The glowing thing in the middle is the lighted cruise ship San Francisco Belle moving through the 6 sec. exposure. Because it was also windy, the camera was pushed around making all of the lights into curious "<" shapes. The dark profile is not the land mass of SF, but the deepest part of the fog bank.
The Vanilla Option
Over the next day or two we'll be posting 3 images from this location. This is the "Vanilla" view - that is, straight up normal image. Later that evening we grabbed a shot in the opposite direction and I will post that next. Finally I'll post a shot that Matt Molloy calls a "TimeStack" showing the cloud movement here.
Living in the San Francisco Bay Area we seldom get much in the way of interesting clouds. The weather options are generally "blue" or "fog"
