The first SteamFest was held at Sheffield in 1994 and it has been held ever since each year on Tasmania’s March long weekend. It is the Redwater Creek Steam and Heritage Society’s major fundraiser and is held in conjunction with the following groups and clubs:
The Tasmanian Tractor Pulling and Vintage Tractor Association, the Howe Family collection of steam engines and vintage equipment, and the Kentish Lions Club.
The weekend features extensive displays of vintage machinery, train rides, traction engines, steam rollers, vintage cars, farm tractors, tractor pulling competitions, and demonstrations of farm practices from the steam era of days gone bye. SteamFest has attracted Government grants that have allowed us to expand and update our facilities, and has won numerous Awards, including the 2010 Cradle Coast Regional Tourism Award for Best Festival, and Community Event of the Year in the 2011 Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards.
