Day 1: NJP to Darjeeling and reporting at Darjeeling. I shot this at NJP railway station. I wanted to create the mode when train just starts to leave. 1/2 the picture u can see the movement of train, with ppl rushing towards train and other half you see the stillness of man setting in dothi. When i was preparing for the shot a police man came to check with me if i had permission. I don't know y it was required. ppl can use point and shoot but i need permission!! may be he was just trying to show his power :-) I said yes and continued....
Trains crossing. Heritage train from NJP to Darjeeling is listed by UNESCO. It passes through the highest station in India "GHUM". It travels at an amazing speed of 10-12km/hr :-). 86kms routes takes nearly 8 hrs to travel. But its interesting to check out.
Heritage train from NJP to Darjeeling. I got the reflection on the window planes of the train. It had drizzled a bit to create watery surface on road and i waited for proper turn. Everything perfect except the two black spots caused due missing handle on the planes.
Finally got the shots without black marks. Had to lean a lot to take this shot but still i liked the earlier one.
First rays of sun in India falls on Kanchenjunga peak ( Highest peak in India). Amazing view. Day 2: Acclimatization in darjeeling
Darjeeling city and Kanchenjunga.
You can see these colorful poles near temples
At Japanese temple
I liked sun rays on the temple
I liked the back light on this cute kid.
Out trekking route
Day 3: Start of our trek to Tumling
Lost in his own world
Our team...just before the start
i don't know how she managed to carry such heavy load over mountains.
Small village which u can see is Tumling. Interesting part is this road is the International border between India and Nepal. Left side of this road is Nepal and right side along with road is in India. Never i had imagined that international border will be like this. Next 3 days we walked on this border and stayed in Nepal!!
India-Nepal border. House which u can see is the first house in Nepal. If you zoom it u can see the board " Welcome to Nepal' in front of the house. When I was taking this shot kids playing in the background went in. I wanted them to be part of the shot to represent friendship b/w the two nations. I went to their house and called them out to play again:-). What all needs to be done to take a shot. Gap on the right side was filled by herd of sheep crossing the border. This completed my shot to indicate friendship and open border policy b/w India and Nepal. I took lot of time of time to take this shot and at the end had to listen to few words after reaching camp!!
Fireplace in Tumling.
Feel the heat
Day:4 - From Tumling to Kalapokri. Before leaving i need to say something abt camp leader. He was there taking responsibility of the camp though he cannot walk long distance as his leg is infected with polio. He is truly uplifting the spirit of youth hostel.
I had to change hue of the grass to go back in time to monsoon season.
This whole route was covered by mist
Sunrise at kalapokri
sun rise over clouds at kalapokri
Group photo at kalapokri. Camp leader was a very energetic person who has done over 35 treks. His one dialogue which i would like to remember " Pahad bulayaga" meaning mountains will call you again. Day:5 kalapokri to Sandakphu.
Trekking with defense personals
Route from kalapokri to Sandakphu was just 6kms but it took everything bit of energy from us. 6kms uphill climb.
Sandakphu village. Shot is not great..but its the photo of Indian defense camp taken from Nepal with Kanchenjunga in the background.
Moon rise over clouds at Sandakphu. I used multiple exposures to take this shot in that freezing temperature
Water source - frozen
Moon set at Sandakphu
Sunrise at Sandakphu. Morning sun rays will color the tip of all high mountains. A view worth a million. 4th from right is Mt Everest- My long term plan and life time achievement :-)
Sunrise at Sandakphu.
Day 6: Sandakphu to Gurdum
My friend had told me a story on how a path in the forest can change the eco-system completely. This view reminded me abt that. This shot proved costly as i lost my lens cap while shoting
Trees stuck by lightning. Even though entire bark is dead it still stand tall. So localities don't touch then as they believe that ghost or evil spirit stay in these trees.
ppl use maize to decorate their houses
Sandeep did really well by not moving. Whole world is moving except him.
Nail biting finish
Leaving the trail
Though its very simple somehow I liked it
Validation ceremony- successfully completed Sandakphu trek
