Late that night, Violet's sisters came back from the movie "The Ghost Bride." Laylie was shaking, but Millie, Felicity, Samantha, Elsie and Kirsten had all gone to an antique shop, plus a craft store, instead of watching the movie. Julie was the one who loved it the most.
Elsie leaned in next to Vi, her brown curls framing her sweet face. "Oh, Vi, you should listen to what the movie was like. I didn't dare watch it, but Julie said that the ghost bride mysteriously vanishes one day, and then, her husband dies shortly after, and then he finds her in the woods, as a ghost, and they live happily ever after as a GHOST couple!" Elsie shivered.
Violet sat and thought about what Elsie had explained to her as Millie wrapped her in blankets and gave her a cupcake and soda. Maybe it was a ghost that she had seen in the hall that evening! But then she told herself that God would never let that happen to her, and He always kept her safe, too. There had to be a logical explanation, if not even she might have seen things when she was sick.
Quiet Hailey only said, "But, Elsie, there's no such thing as ghosts. God wouldn't let anyone come back to earth to haunt others. And even if there WERE ghosts, God would protect us if we met one. Which we won't."
"Yes," Felicity said, "and I was fooled by Lady Margaret's Ghost."
"I do think it's all silly," Elsie agreed.
Julie shook her head. "Ghosts don't exist, of course, but that movie was awesomely creepy. I'd like to see it again."
Laylie looked terrified and quietly started to cry.
But soon, Hailey and Felicity left, saying that they were tired and were going to burn a fire in the fireplace. They left to go to bed.
Millie and Julie remained. Julie did not get along well with Millie, nor with Elsie. Violet knew both of them staying would turn into a cofusing, chaotic scene, and she tried not to think about it.
Julie stood at the end of Vi's bed. "Violet? Can I tell you some more about that movie, or do you want to go to bed?"
Violet was about to agree, so that Millie and Julie wouldn't have any talking space to fight, but before she spoke, Millie cut in.
"Julie, I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I'm so tired of you talking about The Ghost Bride," she said. "It's just a bunch of useless hoopla."
"It is not!," Julie protested, feeling hurt. "I thought it was cool. A lot of parts were good too."
"I don't see HOW they were good," Millie scoffed. "Excuse me; I've had enough of this."
She stormed down to the other entrance of her room.
(It's really my restroom LOL)
Then Violet said, "Ok, Julie, you can tell me about the movie. I have been quiet lonely and need a companion."
So Julie gave an animated account of the whole movie, which took some time, including details such as what her ghost husband's outfit looked like, how he died, and how the ghost bride's wedding gown looked, plus how her eye was silverish. Then she described in the end how they both lived in a ghost house together at the end, as if they were normal people. That was a little strange to Violet.
But at last Julie left to fall asleep. Vi left the light on, and she only got up to use the bathroom. Otherwise she just sat and thought or read. Looking at the clock, it was 11:30 PM.
Sometimes Millie came in the night to take away Violet's midnight snacks and to bring her books and activities. But Violet usually stayed alone.
But soon, Milie was gone. Violet wished desperately that Millie would stay and chat. But she knew that Millie needed to go to bed (although she wondered why Millie did't put on her nightie.)
Violet left the light on and buried herself under the comforters.
She began to sleep.
She heard something
And she saw nothing.
Alarmed, Violet threw off the blanket.
She slid off her bed.
Then, for something warm, she reached for her velvet-like blanket. It was bitterly cold in the room.
Then she walked down the hall.
Her sock feet noiselessy walked down the hall.
Then she peered down the tiny hall, and, once again...
... saw nothing, of course.
Puzzled, Violet went back to bed, although now she was scared, and glad that she had left the light on.
But then, glancing down, Violet gasped.
IT WAS THE GHOST BRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ghost bride moaned and inched forward to Violet's bed. Even her eye was ghostly.
"AAAH! HELP! IT'S THE GHOST BRIDE!" Violet screamed.
She fell off the bed.
Then she fell on the floor and panicked, trying to get up while the ghost bride kept on moaning.
Then she fell backward on her bed.
And the ghost bride was coming closer and closer!!
Then she pulled herself onto her bed.
Having an idea, she grabbed her blanket off her bed.
...as the ghost bride came closer and closer...
She threw it around the ghost bride's ankles, tangling her wedding gown into it!
The ghost bride fell down.
Then Violet tripped an fell on top of her, screaming...
...And tried to get off of her...
To be continued!
