The crowd listened closely as Russell drove home the benefits of the work that Lee has done in the Greater Boston area.
Lee took the podium to thank his supporters and explain how choosing an individual for the Beacon Award reaffirms the power of the individual to make a difference.
Lee reminded the audience that there are four simple steps that can help improve diversity in the profession: leading from the top, achieving a diverse critical mass, being conscious of workplace environment, and learning to give feedback in an empowering way.
Finally, Lee challenged the attorneys present to lead more proactively on diversity, take the time to learn from people of other cultures, and mentor more lawyers of color.
