A typical 1979 midwest outdoor concert crowd. Hey, we could drink at age 18 back then!
Summer of 1979. The "I-29 Music Festival" at the Gordon Twin, Sioux City, IA. Lucy Grey, opening act for Ruby Starr
Outdoor music performed on a flatbed trailer at a drive-in theatre. Shirts way too tight on the guys. Cans of PBR. What more could you want back in 1979?
This came out way too dark. I had to blow out the contrast so the band would show. That's the hazard of photography on an overcast day.
The inimitable Ruby Starr and a Jim Dandy look-alike singing, what else, "Jim Dandy." Jeez, check out the mustache on that guy! Many parts of the 1970s still are painful.
Ruby Starr at the "I-29 Music Festival," Gordon Twin Drive-In, Sioux City, Iowa, 1979. Alas, neither Ruby nor the Drive-In are no longer with us.
For many years, through the early 80's, there was this "moving sign" for the local Roberts Dairy brand on US 20 through Sioux City. At night you could see neon streams of "milk" pouring and filling the glass. For a while in 1979 there was a counterpart Coca-Cola billboard on the other side.
Campus of Iowa State University, 1981. I had some slide film left from a project and it needed to get developed, so I shot these photos.
