A year ago, when we were starting our backpack with Sarah Boomer in the Beartooths, Susie and Sarah ginned up a trip for this year: backpack up to Alaska Basin, in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness, contiguous with the west side of Grand Teton National Park, and basecamp for three nights, so as to day hike parts of the Teton Crest trail. It is good that we planned the trip for the last third of August, as snowpack after a record setting winter was slow to leave the high country. But of course, the mosquitos and flies appreciated the nice long bug season. Anyway, while the weather was pretty toasty - ok, blazing hot - during the trip, clear air afforded spectacular views.
