The distance for proper regulation is 5mm off the rail. These shanks are 35 mm above the rail. Considering this is a new hammer set something is off in the geometry of the regulation that has been just completed. Strike distance to strings should be 47mm. Found at 36mm.
Note the Teflon has been removed from the knuckles. Residue still remains in the grain of the leather. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PFTE) is non-toxic and does not begin break down into other chemicals until 485-500F making this application safe. In the distance one can see the knuckle of one shank appears to be lined up with the jack of another whippen even though the forward whiipen is raised , leaving the jack at a slightly different angle.
Remember that the lens will cheat a little because of wide angle. Only the hammers directly in front of the lens are the true ones. Note the two hammers in a raised position and the mating to the strings.. See the elevated hammeron the right.
Several photos taken in the bass section where improper mating to strings is observed.
I like the left hammer of the two raised hammers in this photo. Centered symmetrically with equal amount of felt outside the strings for good balance and when the strings are leveled no lateral left/ right torque forced on moving components upon strike. Hopefully the una corda pedal works with the hammer centered in this position.
