KRC v Aurora Hills/Highland Park, Arlington, Sunday morning, June 21, after 10am
Kennedy Recreation Center was deserted Sunday morning while Aurora Hills Rec Center was filled with people and families. Inviting, clean and safe recreation areas are great amenities for communities. Tax payers should neither need to be recruited to volunteer to clean up after other users, nor should we be expected to supervise the employees who manage our recreation centers — we already pay taxes to have these basic services done. Hopefully, cleaning our recreation centers and maintaining their safety is in the District's 2009 and 2010 budgets and haven't been swept under the rug in some back room deals that are kept out of the light public scrutiny — even eluding the appropriate Ward Councilmember's attention.
One day after the NCEC's annual community — rescheduled due to rain — there was still plenty of litter at the NJ Ave & O St park. Although the park was apparently cleaned up on Thursday or Friday, it was in clear need of maintenance again Sunday morning.
