After a huge dinner celebrating our success on the Grand Teton we met up with friends Aron, Dianne and Wolfgang and found lodging at the AAC Tetons climber's camp bunk house.
Another gorgeous day in the Tetons
Next up was a group trip to climb Mt. Moran via the CMC route. The approach is most commonly done by canoeing across a couple lakes and then backpacking up
Mount Moran. As I recall much of the climbing was to the left of the huge black streak
Getting the canoe to the water
Commander Guido and Bill with the NBC-issue video camera. We were shooting video footage of Aron with it.
Only four months earlier Aron had been through a canyoneering accident resulting in the loss of his right hand. It didn't slow him down at all, obviously.
A short portage between String Lake and Jackson Lake, I think
Aron cools off before we start our hump up to the CMC camp

Erik cooks up some dinner. We brought along champagne to celebrate Wolfgang's birthday

Looking at the upper route before a short rappel to get us over there
Aww yeah. Beautiful morning light on the Grand Teton. This is one of my favorite photos of all time
Scrambling before roping up
The route is 5.4 so ropes aren't really necessary if you're competent. We were barely competent thus...
This formation has a name that I've forgotten
Summit of Mount Moran at 11:32am
The crew! Wolfgang, Dianne, Aron, me, tough Erik, Guido, serious Bill
We did a lot of rappelling to get down
And a short climb up the short rappel we did earlier
It was a long day. We got back to camp, packed up and descended to the canoes. We canoed out under the moonlight which was quite magical.
Bushed from a great week-long trip!
Almost home and we get a flat tire outside of Espanola at 11:00pm. C'mon!
