Skinning up at the trailhead off of highway 26. Bill and I used backcountry touring skis with scales and Tom used his split snowboard with skins. We left the trailhead around 7:15pm.
Breaking the law
It was a nearly full moon and that's why we chose to go at night. However, it snowed on us the entire time so we used our headlamps to mimic the moon's light
At times it was full-on dumping
After the 5 mile ski in we crossed the river and booted it up the 200 vertical feet to the hot springs. It took us two hours to get to the hot springs from the car
It was quite warm outside but the hot springs were still inviting. We soaked for an hour before dragging our relaxed bodies out of the water to ski back out to the car
Tom busted out his leopard print speedos for the occasion
Crossing the snowbridge on our way back out at 10:30pm
A tired-looking Bill back at the trailhead just after midnight. We wouldn't get home to Los Alamos until 1:30am.
A movie of the night's action
