Our crew of twelve rolled in Friday morning around 9am, shouldered the pads and headed out
Cynthia, Henrik and Ethan heading up the rock towards our first problems
Andrew fishing around "In the Bucket of Parts" a V2 in the Small Potatoes area
Monkeying around on "Nobody Gets Out Alive" a classic V2
Allison cranking hard on "No One Gets Out Alive", V2.
Christa footwork was hampered by the walking boot so she resorted to figure-4s
Calita eyeing the big reach to the jug at the lip...
And going for it!
We met Chuck on our first day and ended up seeing him and/or climbing with him all three days. He's a volunteer guide at Hueco and can do 240 pushups
It wasn't all about the climbing. Beautiful scenery and lots of sunbathing
Calita crimpin' on a V1, I think
Seeking shade later in the day we ended up on Lobster Claw, V4-5
Walt working the lower section of Lobster Claw
And the hike out to the beer and Kubb.
Kubb you ask? Yes.
We played "German rules" Kubb so the finishing tosses have to be backwards and between your legs
Clearly a Kubb master--simultaneous beverage drink-and-toss.
Look at that toss! (And all five pegs standing up...clearly this is the first toss of the game.)
Walt's never seen a toss like that before
OK, next day, second route of the day. Allison and I busted out the ropes in Hueco (I know, right!?) for this classic two-pitch route, Sea of Holes (5.10R). Steep jug climbing for 300 feet.
Unfortunately, the first route of the day we climbed had a super shitty rappel anchor resulting is mega-nasty rope coilage for the rest of the day. Check it.
Stephanie rocking up "Malice in Bucketland"
And a short hike out to go find shady bouldering
Found us in the cave-like area of Martini Roof
Ethan getting lots of attention
On our last day we head to "Sign of the Cross" at V3-V4 crimpfest
Hagen nabbed the incut with just two fingers and pulled hard
The one time I actually managed to get that right hand crip at the top of the cross. Then I ran out of skin.
A little panorama showing the last problem (not sure what it was) we climbed for the trip. I was psyched to figure out "tall guy beta" and send it to end the weekend on a great note
