Beginning the outing with the crossing of the bridge at Hog Springs picnic area.
And a little bushwacking to gain the approach gully.
After a bit of confusion we found the ascent gully/rib to reach the top of the mesa.
Nearing the top of the mesa so we can go up and over its top and down into Hogwarts.
Descending down into the canyon.
First view of the canyon. It descends quickly and shortly right down to highway 95.
Some loose fourth class scrambling to avoid the first drop off in Hogwarts.
Super bomber anchor for the first 30 foot rappel. Really, it was strong enough!
Another view of the first rappel
AA (Andy) on the first rappel
Cruising in the middle section of Hogwarts.
And what is this?!? An awesome, large arch in the canyon!
AA rapping down into the bowl below the large arch.
View of the arch from mid rappel.
The arch was magnificent!
Bill down in the main silo problem of Hogwarts. I was able to slab climb around it.
After the silo was this cool fault line crack squeeze.
AA on the second to last rappel.
For the last rappel, a 70 foot free rappel, we used this deadman anchor. We beefed it up with some heavy rocks and Bill figured it still needed an extra handful of sand to make it truly bomber.
CP gets into the final rappel. See highway 95 in the background?
DB getting into the final rap
Almost down. Will the deadman anchor hold just one more person? I hope so!
Looking back up the last rappel down the pour-off out of Hogwarts. Good stuff!
Impromptu parking lot picnic at Hog Springs picnic area!
