Todd leads the charge down the Paerdegat
Out to the bay. Looks quiet but although the weather wasn't too cold (high of 41 was called for), the wind was windy, a little over 15 mph, and straight out of the basin, so it was going to be a slog home. Still quite manageable, but we swapped our usual Ruffle Bar trip for a shorter trip around Canarsie Pol and were glad of it.
Heading out onto the bay. I don't think we saw a single motorboat all morning!
Todd, Margaret & Gracie rounding the eastern tip of Canarsie Pol.
Rolling party - there goes Matt! BTW, I think he gets King of the Frostbiters award today - he started out paddling, he joined the rolling party, and then when we all went back to the dock, he grabbed one of the Sunfish that had been rigged and went sailing, too!
Todd tries a hand-roll - didn't quite go but he had stashed his Greenland paddle on deck and made it up under his own steam.
Jim goes tearing past - he and Holly rigged a couple of Sunfish and came out to play.
Steve "The Paddling Chef" joins the rolling party - here's the setup -
And up he comes!
Another roll from Steve.
Bummer, I just missed a nice roll of Todd's
Jim tacks under the bridge
Jim makes it out of the bridge as Holly hikes in a gust over to the left, just visible under the bridgework platform - I tried to catch her to get a better sailing picture but although they did have to tack up the basin, they were moving fast enough that the kayak straight-line couldn't catch up.

Back in the clubhouse, good food, good drink, and some good talking story
Then the meeting, which was a meeting, yup! Has to happen, though, and a New Year's Day party with great food is the best way to lure people this time of year. And that was the 2013 Frostbite Regatta and General Meeting! Happy New Year!
