Born in 1864, Collins was the son of a Church of England rector, but ordained for the Church of Ireland in the diocese of Killaloe following his Trinity College Dublin education. He was the first missionary at the Dublin University Mission in Fukien, China in 1887 where he served before his tragic end, as the lantern slide caption records.
