365/365: I learned a couple of years ago by experiment to make new year's resolutions like this: Begin well before the year ends - that's how you can make sure you promise something realistic and lasting :)

365/364: I already chose "The last of Christmas" as my yesterday's pic title... These gnomes on the seasonal sale still captured my attention today though.
"The Gnome" Tonttu (Vesa-Matti Loiri) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8xb5uywGsY
The ever so touching words in Finnish describe how an old gnome observes life from the house across the yard where he's lived for ages: Everything is tranquil. All people sleep. There's heavy snow. The feeling is encouraging. The Spring will arrive as it always has. The old gnome remains in his thoughts. Sleepless as always... [Lyrics in Finnish: http://fi.wikisource.org/wiki/Tonttu]

If you cut it down then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind..."

365/337: Mikonkatu, Helsinki - a new Morning
The theme of the day later on @ #LUT: Tangible vs. intangible capital and [personal -> collaborative -> connective] confidence creation capacity
Some initial perceptions through Nahapiet & Ghoshals paper: "(1) social capital facilitates the creation of new intellectual capital; (2) organizations, as institutional settings, are conducive to the development of high levels of social capital; and (3) it is because of their more dense social capital that firms, within certain limits, have an advantage over markets in creating and sharing intellectual capital." http://www.jstor.org/pss/259373

365/335: City Museum is a cozy place for art exhibitions and the history of Helsinki. I walked by in the morning on my way to today's Tekes Event. Introduced by the Finnish Gloria / home magazine - made of IKEA CD shelves. Christian Democrats in Finland toward the April 2011 election - Peter Östman speaking
The slide explains a recent research: Finns believe in the Parliament but Finns do not believe in the people who are the parliament. Hearing this put some pieces of the puzzle into new places in my thinking. This maybe has some connection to difficulties with sharing or coaching or teaching business transformation in Finland. Storytelling and leading or teaching by example and sharing experiences does not work - because people do not believe in other people. Understanding this is a key forward.

365/328: Fennoscandian gnome tradition
There's a Christmas card exhibition at the Tapiola Library. The theme is cats. The reason why there often are cats in Finnish Christmas cards is the fact that the cats of the house usually are very good friends with the gnomes around.

365/327: Loving the eight seasons tradition of the Sami culture
"The last season, ending the yearly cycle, is Christmas, a period of constant darkness. The long polar nights are followed by the greatest celebration of the year: Christmas - a celebration of rebirth, light and letting go of the old."
Letting go the old in repeated circles - every year - is the skill we currently lack the most. We don't want to see any other alternatives than the quarter year budgeting of everything.

365/324: Bullying in 1930
Photographed from my Aunt's photo album today - my late Dad is the little boy standing as the fourth from the right. The original photograph has been taken outside my Dad's home. He was the youngest in the neighborhood. The older children had warned him: "When the photographer presses the shutter, your hat will fly high in the air ...and you'll never get it back. -SO BEWARE!"
It was a matter of eternal laughter when the kids got the photo. My Dad was born in 1927. This photo has most probably been taken in summer 1930. The location is Savonlinna, Finland.

365/318: Visualizing current emotional capital of Finnish #KM
I just posted this tweet: Definition of 'Knowledge Creator': Positive thinker expressing love, care, trust & commitment; intruder, fuzzyfyer http://bit.ly/bOzVtW #KM
Based on recent extensive knowledge seminar workshopping and liveblogging, this piece of art by Finnish Jarmo Silvennoinen caught my attention today - as how the #KM field currently feels. The emptiness offers fascinating opportunities for a true shift in personal and emergent, collaborative thinking.
365/317: How would you visualize the change in your own thinking during last two years - or last two decades?
I spotted this old school wall map at http://www.ainojaonni.fi/flea market in Suomenoja, Espoo today. This is the kind of map we were taught - and the kind of Europe we lived in throughout my school years.
"...self-directed learning programs that combine capacity-building with useful information would be a useful strategy. I’m not a fan of training programs because they’re one-size-fits-all when one size fits none. But we don’t have a framework for self-directed learning the way we have for formal education. From the work that’s been done by unschoolers, we might guess what such a framework might look like..."

I've been for the whole day listening to that THE thing within business performance analytics is transformation. And that transformation resides in people's heads. 365/313: The topic of today's @dailyshoot is isolation.
http://photoinf.com/General/Klaus_Schroiff/Perspective.htm explains 'object isolation' effect: An isolated object sucks the view from the first look. This is a natural reaction because the brain scans for the most contrasty subject first. -Reading this made me think of using social networking tools. They are made for seeing remote things and understanding people on distance more clearly. There's a big risk that we for a reason or another get stuck with the learning the tools phase - get too carried away with the feeling *I* enjoy learning and forget why and for and with whom we in the first place started all the effort.
Two school classes with their teachers from Turku, Finland have created a hilarious piece of art with all possible kinds of winter sports activities included.

365/304: It's important to remember in practice that #keywords and #hashtags are in use for empowering purposes. We use them for sharpening our focus and (re)constructing the foundations of our world view.
The above collage consists of two paintings by Finnish Helmiriitta Honkanen: "Blessing" and "Winter" - phographed at Espoo Cultural Center Art Gallery. The artist just got 90 years old. The above paintings have been created during this year.
The painting on the left contains keywords like: #Jesus #mercy #peace #freedom #joy... - When mentioning the first two keywords as a foundation of one's world view - aiming widely at the following three must not be forgotten. A strong personal worldview means repeated critical reflection. It's never done by sticking to saying "what's always been said". Increasing multicultural understanding is a crucial competence and capacity for every member of a philosophy or a religion that's meant to be kept vital - enabling health, happiness and sustainability.

"When we limit ourselves with low expectations, the growth of the tree of happiness ceases. The power of growth, of improvement, the power to overcome all stagnation and break through every obstacle and transform a barren wasteland into a verdant field--that unstoppable power of hope resides right within your own heart. It wells up from the rich earth of your innermost being when you face the future without doubt or fear: "I can do more. I can grow. I can become a bigger and better human being." Life is a never-ending struggle to grow."

Belonging to series: Things I never ever noticed when hurrying to a bus stop before daily photo projects
"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."

"Embracing dissensus implies a process of actively and passively looking for and accommodating to what might be the opposite of resilience: a letting go, an acceptance of the chaotic not only as the true state of our condition; but as the only source of a way past our condition. You hit what you’re aiming at. When you search for stability, or even resilience, in a time of chaotic change and a closing off of options you will get stability, the only stability left: death. Your resilience will keep you tied to this course until there is no other option. Dissensus at such times may be the only way forward…"

365/261: I just watched the last episode of "Die Komissarin" through Finnish web TV. It was originally sent in 2006 after 12 years of production - but I've followed the series only now through the reprises. It's very seldom - after getting used to following multi channelled social media - that any TV show captures my attention. This 'krimi' still did. It having ended - I don't have a favorite. It's time to discover different ways of relaxing thinking than TV.
A very describing phenomenon showing that we really are transfroming the media we impact through is that we were instructed at my Uni that we should not consider books as primary sources of information for our theses any more.

365/248: Minister Henry Liivola reminded us of the importance of remembering to show gratitude - in form of a song & guitar play in the middle of his sermon during the Sunday Morning Mass at the Riihimäki Lutheran Church.
From the Psalm of the day - Psalm 50: "...and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."
With reflection to series of KM lectures I've recently attended - Psalm 50:15 describes the guiding principle toward the next wave of connective KM. The management people are there to deliver help. People around them have multi-dimensional responses to recognize and interpret where help and support is needed. The process becomes mutual and networked. All parties appreciate each other's efforts. "Management" as we understand it now will fade. It will be distributed into emergent, iterative processes within truly living and creative networks of networks.
The above is my understanding in a nutshell, of how work will look like during 2020's.

365/242: "People are often stuck in narrow, repetitive patterns of conversation that provide numbing, repressive and even neurotic experiences #ckir"
This tweet caused the most fundamental A-HA moment re. #ckir.
- That's exactly what I experienced when I started to think through MOOCs a couple of years ago. I haven't so far seen this discussed in any occasion re. MOOC dynamics.
Without those experiences I would never have taken such a passionate distance from the attending-a-course thinking 'round MOOCs and discovered all the shift making people / networks / emerging ideas I currently value the most.
Attending-a-course kind of thinking / way of organizing is not valid in networked contexts. Understanding how to handle and utilize this shift (learn to accept help & help others) is one very critical literacy & capacity of the connected era. It's about consistent, persistent construction of ethics of communication.

The topic of yesterday's @dailyshoot was "something recycled or reused in an other function..." - but there was something wrong with the site and that was not the final assignment after all... I utilize the pic I took as my today's 365. It's an old inherited sheet with lace and embroideries - currently functioning as a curtain. Re-use discovered by my Mom :)
I add here a design spotting photo by @lindstorm: http://twitpic.com/1pzhw8 :)

My today's 365 became another. The first, SO desired hot wind of the season is blowing from Caucasus mountains. The temperature is +28C. All of a sudden it's full summer. One of today's surprises was me at last activating my Second Life avatar. It took some time... I'll add & link the rest of my sweet summer shadow pics tomorrow.

365/128: A magic interpretation.
I had difficulties to find out any text for this photo. The Summer is just hiding somewhere.
I tried youtube -> Schubert and found this amazing performance by Arthur Rubinstein:
Impromptu Op. 90 No. 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcR3tAeTwmE
365/127: A dear memory I got from a colleague many years ago. She brought it as a souvenir from Crete, Greece. It symbolizes for me all the good things I've learned and received during those years. I've occasionally really consciously needed to remind myself of the them - in order to manage all the unlearning needs those years have caused for me.
"An organization that is willing to change will thrive. It all starts from a leader who is willing to change him- or herself."
365/126: ...but it's a fabulous aid when it works.
New participants ask why to use twitter - I've recently replied that I get amazing sources & replies to questions before I even figured out what kind of questions I should be asking.
There's the logic how putting the effort of learning to participate to social networks really gradually begins to save your time. Your networks deepen = sharpen and simultaneously widen. Join in :)
365/125: The spring wakes up in many different colors and shapes
365/124: Beautiful things in a shop window bring joy into a gray day.
-Complaining about the weather is waste of everything - but when there's a combination of wet snow and heavy wind in May:

"There may be times when others seem enviable. But others are others and you are you. Rather than comparing your joys and sorrows to those of others, you should aim to surpass your limits in the situation you are in right now. Those who can do this are the true victors in life."
(http://www.ikedaquotes.org/ of today)
365/119: The weather forecast says rain for several days ahead. The old larch in the backyard is going to like it :)
"It is precisely when we have suffered defeat that we can determine to win and open the path to future victory."

365/118: What happened to that lamp-post?
I lived in the green house until the year 2000, for over ten years.

365/116: Making plans for the next weekend:
365/115: The season of coltsfeet is almost over. Due to a lot of rain and frosty nights their blooming is late. Today there were many of them in full bloom.

365/114: Let's collaborate!
This is my visualization of social media. The curve goes up. We arrived here through different paths of unlearning. There's us, who already made social media our way of living. And then there's many who only see the asphalt. Now it's the time to create the colors together!
This pic started my this morning's photo walk http://www.flickr.com/photos/connectirmeli/sets/72157623798758593/
365/113: Practicing for today's @dailyshoot
365/112: So ready for the Summer...
The big thing of today was the keynote presentation by Stephen Downes at #ITK2010 Conference. Due to the #ashtag he was unable to fly to Finland, but the video and slides give nodes for exercising pedagogy involving immersion for a long time.
365/111: Time for Children's Spring Concerts - posters of the local Music Institute

A fabulously sunny morning & temp. -3C
The thought for today was tweeted by http://twitter.com/IvanCampuzano:
the problem with thinking is that it needs time to formulate an answer. Being able to feel requires no time because it already knows...
A destination belongs to your ego, it does not know how to get you there. You need direction in life, direction belongs to your whole being

365/108: Spring in purple color today
Today's incredible web discovery is newborn Amur leopard twins through live nest cam @ Tallinn Zoo. I can't stop watching them: http://www.interactivezoo.eu/pesa.html
365/107: Knowing that the ash clouds are not this clearly visible at a this low altitude - but when the forecasts say that new clouds are currently approaching the Southern Finland, there's a strong feeling in the air... I was able to experience a very beautiful April Morning through my camera lens between the cloudy periods though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/connectirmeli/sets/72157623750023187/
365/106: Something new green & yellow every day - re-reading today: http://gerrystahl.net/cscl/papers/ch14.pdf. The explanation of collaborative knowledge building process is so valid for all organizational learning and change implementation challenges of today.
365/105: It's only one day a year the crocus yellow shines exactly like this - yesterday right before the http://twitter.com/#search?q=ashtag thing
365/104: About wisdom: http://www.scribd.com/doc/29889567/Wisdom-05
3657103: HEAVY SKY. I've recently learned a lot of moods. They are the way we choose to proact or react in our network when we wake up. It's important to remember that it's our daily choice - the mood :). But when the sky is this heavy...
This is what I'm thinking right now:
"The more knowledge one gains, the more important becomes the question of what that knowledge will be used for. Knowledge without wisdom and philosophy produces nothing than talented beasts."
365/102: Atmosphere at Tapiola Library this evening - the text says: My love is strong as wind.
"True love should be transformative, a process that amplifies our capacity to cherish not just one person but all people. It can make us stronger, lift us higher and deepen us as individuals. Only to the extent that one polishes oneself now can one hope to develop wonderful bonds of the heart in the future."
365/101: THE SNOW IS ALMOST GONE. I just read an article that there will soon be built eight blocks of flats with six to eight stores in this area. I also read from some previously published news that the original plan consisted of much higher apartment and office buildings (12-15 stores) but The National Board of Antiquities http://www.nba.fi/en/ strongly opposed it because of reasons of honoring the cultural heritage of the old central Tapiola region. News in Finnish: http://www.lansivayla.fi/Uutiset/Arkisto/2009/04/22/Museovirasto-vastustaa-Revontulentien-tornitaloja and http://www.lansivayla.fi/Uutiset/Jutut/Pitkasta-aikaa-uusia-asuntoja-Tapiolaan. 365/100: The Church of St. Herman of Alaska in April Light - this song recorded in 1988 tells of the blue and white feelings the Finnish flag represents: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr7loPC3bJk. The singer is Finnish Jukka Kuoppamäki,
365/99: Friday Evening - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0QKyhgSqBw&feature=related:
"Though the sun may hide
We still can see
The light that shines for you and me
We'll be together all that we can be.
And when the rain begins to fall
you'll ride my rainbow in the sky
And I will catch you if you fall
you'll never have to ask me why.
And when the rain begins to fall I'll be the sunshine in your life
You know that we can have it all and everything will be allright."

365/97: I recognized a familiar creature today outside a local supermarket - "DINO". I worked for a company in 2000-2001 who had transformed "DINO" into an aircraft exterior cleaning robot. Some googling showed that the invention still rocks: http://directory.groundsupportworldwide.com/product/10024708/Nordic_Aero_AB_Aircraft_Exterior_Cleaning_Robot
365/96: I stopped by at a baker's shop and one Bunny was still there. Easter Bunnies did not originally belong to our tradition. They have arrived e.g. in form of chocolate though. I liked to read "Explaining the Easter Bunny" http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/93539?fp=1. Simultaneously learning foursquaring: http://foursquare.com/item/655271
365/95: Snowdrops - now it's really spring and not only a perception...
365/94: HE IS RISEN - Easter Mass at Tapiola Church; Proverbs 4:18 "But the path of the [uncompromisingly] just and righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines more and more (brighter and clearer) until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day [to be prepared].", Amplified Bible (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+4&version=AMP) - I currently like to read it aside. It's a way to learn to reflect sayings and our opinions and attitudes on e.g. management, leadership and teaching from a wider perspective. It's very useful to question things we take for granted - to learn to make questioning a daily habit.
365/93: Seasonal gifts... The following YouTube playlist begins with http://bit.ly/Trisagion-Hymn which leads us into the atmosphere of the Holy Saturday
365/92: Good Friday Ad Sextam at Tapiola Church - five roses as symbols of wounds of Jesus. Music: Stabat Mater by Antonio Vivaldi - many links through http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIsx5hszsWE.
