escaped the Canadian winter to the New Zealand summer
Dunedin (Port Chalmers)
that's more like it... breakfast
I can see why few people climb and many people surf here
love the moment the wave breaks and the spray blows backwards
the famous KiwiJay
New Years Eve dinner
I've never had so much shellfish. Quite excellent indeed.
beware the rock climbing in New Zealand (this is an actual crag)
high point: climbing near Wanaka... fun 2-3p 5.8 thing on solid schist up the left side then ramp.
more typical: Lovers Leap. Note the choss band low down and the fixed chains to get past them. Not much of a place to stand at the base either. I thought that the crag was almost so-so
another local crag: downside = the rock falls down all the time. upside = it's on the beach
an exposed approach to a standard crag in the Darrans. (long story omitted... let's just say that I wasn't all that impressed by the Darrans)
lunar eclipse on the solstice
Jay, Nana, and Jay's parents (Rob and Wai)
Jay has overcome his addiction to Apple products
I've just opened my eyes for the first time, I have no teeth, and I'm having a bad day
sweet and little, just 10 days old... I was just in heaven
hiking near Queenstown. A wet few days
during the rain. Note all the creeks.
after the rain. Notice the creeks are gone.
a New Zealand classic: Ravages of Time, 8p, 10c. Notice the vegetation belay
rapping off a tree. Apparently, last year someone died rapping this route when their rappel tree ripped out
