Our flights were rerouted to Great Falls MT instead of Spokane, WA because of the previous day's storm. We (Annie, Jim Mash and I) also delayed a day while 17 other members arrived at the park on July 27, 2012.
Great Falls airport, 1pm, 7/28/12
The moment three of us joined our group friends. They just finished a day hike. Whew, we finally made it!
Arrived at campsite..Nancy, Ivy and Cindy were cooking dinner.
We took a stroll after dinner. It was so peaceful scanning the lake, and the mountains, my mind finally got rested after this long day and night detouring.
A woman is doing yoga in the middle of the lake.
This girl from an Amish family kept smiling at me.. I quickly took my camera out and caught this-- Really adorable!!
James- Explain what you are doing?!!
July 29..starting a day hike from here.--Finished 19 miles that day.
Sperry Chalet--Historic Hotel and Dining Room
Reached Only by Trail. $185 first person per night, including meals.
My lunch box.
We had lunch at Sperry Chalet. They are very friendly. H.Y. treated us hot soup.
It's where people stay overnight. I didn't go in, we had to go on to our destination.
H.Y. Lee and Su
Can you see our people?
Can you see people above the water fall marching?
Nancy, Su and H.Y. Lee.
Look at the little cutie!
From right to left-Gordon, Nancy, Su, James, Cindy .
Gordon and Cindy- Breathtaking!
Reaching our final destination!
Cindy, me and Nancy!
Chung, Gordon and James.
Unexpectedly, four ladies joined us when we were turning back. They are Annie, Ada, Karen and Meiyu. We were overjoyed to see them.
Chung, Su and Cindy!
Let me pass! You are in my way! --said Nancy.
A Nature Garden!
Ada reached final destination! -19 miles total. We had ice cream that Xiao Ma bought us.
Veg Noodle soup everyday!
Aug. 30 Logan Pass visitor center!
Picking up gifts.
I and an American Indian. "It is our land, called blackfeet." He told me.
Highline trial- We hiked about 6 miles due to moving campground from Apgar campsite to St. Mary area.
We had lunch there. Many Americans asked for a bite on my sandwich, I said OK, I only charge $5. haha
Wild flowers are everywhere.
Historic Red Bus from White company since 1930's.
Glacier Signature lake--St. Mary Lake.
Moved to second campground..hot like in the desert.. We managed to cook and had dinner at a local picnic area.
July 31, Iceberg Lake and Ptarmigan lake and Tunnel. Total: 14.8 miles.
From 1-9 it is how we hiked.
They are taking pictures of bears or moose. I couldn't see either, so I took pictures of them. :-)
Pose-- S!. After review this photo, Nancy asked me to delete it. Instead, I posted it here..
I thought she might have been to Mt. Everest!! She might be over 80 or 90, but she is still hiking, using a pair of hiking poles. I gave her a WOW!!
We met a group of Chinese from China. They said they never hiked before, but they really kept a good pace.
We were reaching to the most beautiful lake that I had ever been--Iceberg lake! A must go if you are in Glacier NP.
The combination of blue and white was just breathtaking.
Annie was trying to get on a stone to pose.. I thought the one I caught is much better than her pose!
Almost done... camera ready?!
"It's so cold'--said Nancy!
A father promised his daughter if she made to the lake, he would jump into the icecold lake. He told me that his heart stopped beating the moment when he was in the water.
His daughter was going to jump in as well.
The wife was worried..come on Honey!!
H.Y.Lee wanted to try as well even though we were all screaming "NO!!!"
Hugging his ice lady.. I guess he was burning inside.. needed to cool down a little bit. LOL
A good entertaining! Thanks H.Y. Lee!!
Ada wanted to try as well.
Now everybody wanted to try! I didn't! I enjoyed taking pictures of them.
I can feel H.Y. Lee's body heat there..
A group of 10. The rest of them went to Ptarmigan Lake. We regretted that they didn't come here..but later, they all made to iceberg lake..
We decided our second destination that day- Ptarmigan Lake.
Reached the lake. Disappointed comparing to what we just saw (Iceberg lake). But it was beautiful from a different point to view it. Wait to see...
Taking a break!
People came back from the Tunnel told us we should go there. It's only 0.9 mile. We had already hiked 8.7 then, still needed to go back. But Nancy insisted to go to the third goal that day--Ptarmigan Tunnel.
Tunnel is on the top right hand. We needed to pass the zigzag trail..pretty steep actually..couldn't tell from the picture though.
Now the lake seemed much prettier than when we were close by.
See--it looked a little steep now. Plus very sandy.
The lake is getting prettier.
8 of us made the tunnel--a historical place as well.
I heard the tunnel was made during depression time, in order to increse jobs.
View from the other side of the tunnel.
A father and son were there, took a picture of me at the end of the tunnel.
H.Y.Lee's left hand side is a cliff.
Aug. 1- after three leaders got permits for the following day's backpacking, we had a meeting, and divided to three groups. Leader Annie was speaking.
Leader H.Y. Lee was speaking.
Another day hike, two Medicine pass- about 12 mile hike.
Cindy and Gordon.
Su, Ivy and Ah Chen!
This lake wasn't as impressive as iceberg lake.
But still very beautiful!
After the hike, Jim Mash was enjoying the nature and his music.
Aug. 2, packing up for backpacking.
Our final destination--Poia Lake. We picked up a shorter but harder trail. 4.1 miles. The first one mile was extremely steep.
We started really late that day.. getting ready.
Jim and Su.
It started raining out.
She is so pretty, as well as the horses.
At campground, H.Y. was cooking dinner for us.
We met two groups of people, one solo; another three people.
We couldn't do anything that night.. rain continued.. I didn't even see the lake after this much work. Slept!! This was taken the next morning, everything was wet.. Su and I shared the tent on right, Jim's on the left. H.Y. Lee is the small orange one. His tent was floating on the water..
I went to get some water, caught this reflection, only for a few minites. After I returned to the lake, no more reflection. I was so glad that I took some nice shots of the lake. It is worth all my work.
This is the solo hiker Monte, he did a five day backpacking.
I washed my pot and looked at the water, I asked: "What should I do with the water?" "You drink it", said H.Y. I drank it. :-(
Four of us!
Monte was ready for his last day.. we took this picture and said Goodbye!
It started raining again. Four of us squeezed in my tent, chatting and laughing.. It's Sister Wendy's Time.. the radio plays
Enjoying the photos!
All wet! I had to wrap a plastic bag between my foot and shoe.
We planned to go a short hike after the sky cleared out. Jim was hanging all food up.
It was so quiet and peaceful there, only four of us there enjoying the nature momentarily.
Su wanted to fly like a bird.
It was a relaxing hike by this beautiful lake.
washing groundsheet in the lake.
Last shot.. and said "Good Bye"
We sang loud on the way back to scare bears away.. it made our return quicker and shorter.
reaching at the parking lot.
Last campsite.. Comparing to the night before, it was heaven! No limited shower; swimming pool, jacuzzi..
Finally last group of 4 backpackers showed up. They did 30 miles in two days, crazy!! Barely could they walk any more!
James and Xiao Ma
Aug 4 packing up and leaving.
He wanted me to put the pretty girl in the photo. I couldn't eliminate the guy next. :-)
Las lunch with the group!
Three of us said Goodbye to everybody after lunch. We headed to Great Falls, and they to Spokane.
Having steak in Great Falls.
Flying back to NYC. Trip ends!
See you next year!
