Kit-Kat were excited to spend the day with their new friend, Marie-Christine. Marie-Christine was very curious about America and of course, model citizens and former Presidents of the United States Kit-Kat were very happy to tell her about the most important feature of the country, themselves.
Kit-Kat's best friends Baby-Ruthie approached the girls. "We just watched The Princess and the Frog, and we need your support!" Baby demanded. "We need to stop the French practice of eating frog legs," Ruthie said seriously. "In the movie, Tiana and Naveen turned into frogs... so we can't let the French eat people by mistake!"
Baby-Ruthie's signs to promote their cause
Baby gave one of the signs to Marie-Christine, explaining that hamburgers were much more civilized. "I think that's just a movie, Baby-Ruthie," Marie-Christine said. She was French and even though she enjoyed America, she didn't think her fellow citizens were cannibals. "But Marie-Christine, Lumiere and Cogsworth are real, they just opened a restaurant called 'Be Our Guest' today!" Kit said. "So it might be true," she added dramatically. "We could make better signs than Baby-Ruthie, though," Kat noted. "And it would probably be better to go totally vegan. It would make a bigger statement. What if people can get turned into cows too?"
"Phhm. That wasn't in the movie. It's just frogs," Baby explained. "And princesses are real; Marie and Liesel and Sam are all princesses!" "Our signs are the bestest!" Ruthie protested.
Just then, Cate walked by. Baby-Ruthie reeled her in with their spiel. "Hey Cate!" Baby called after her. "You collect frogs, right? You should join our cause to protest cuisses de grenouille! It's inhumane!" "Are you becoming vegetarians?" Cate asked, confused. "No, we still like hamburgers," Ruthie said, for what seemed like the fiftiest time, and explained that sometimes frogs could really be humans in disguise.
"Um..." Cate said. "Where are your friends?" Ruthie asked. "You should get them to join us too." "Oh," Cate said, "Harper and Sam went to Monaco for Christmas, with Sam's family. So I'm here alone... me and the guy I accidentially asked on a date... Steph, my roommate from med school, is coming in the next few days, though!"
"Why am I telling you this?" Cate asked rhetorically, because she usually couldn't stand Baby-Ruthie's and Kit-Kat's antics.
"We're very good listeners!" Ruthie said enthusiastically. "Kit-Kat talk a lot..." Baby said, less enthusiastically. "How do you accidentially ask someone on a date?" Ruthie wondered, hungry for gossip.
"He talked me into it. Sort-of. It's not really a date, I guess. Um..." Cate wanted to get off of this topic. The boy in question was her ex-best-friend, whom she had previously vowed never to talk to again but whom Harper and Sam were fond of stalking online. She didn't want this to get around, because she didn't plan on associating him after their sort-of date, anyway. "Why don't we go check out 'Be Our Guest'?" Cate suggested. She had noticed Marie-Christine seemed uncomfortable with Baby-Ruthie's accusations against the French, and thought she might enjoy having some French food. "I loved Beauty and the Beast!" Marie-Christine exclaimed. "Let's go!" "It was okay," Kat said, "but it would be better if it was called 'Beauty and the Best'. It could be about me and Baby!" "I'm so pretty," Baby mused. "I'm prettier," Ruthie countered. "HMMPH!!! What about me?!?!" Kit whined.
"Bienvenue en France!" Cogsworth and Lumiere greeted them at the entrance to their new restaurant. "We are very busy on our opening day, so there is a little wait for a table, but no worries, we will serve you as soon as possible!" The restaurant's theme song, "Be Our Guest", was playing in the background. The newspaper review of the new restaruant had mentioned that the two wanted to open up the restaurant after Belle and Beast got married, because they were trying the new royal trend of living without servants (modeled by William and Kate of England) and according to Lumiere, "life is so unnerving for a servant who's not serving; he's not whole without a soul to wait upon."
There were quite a few others partaking in the "little wait" for a table. Piper tried to catch the attention of the new group. Marie-Christine seemed a little intimidated by her and stayed close to her friends.
"Don't I have a grand outfit for the opening of the restaurant?" Piper exclaimed to the crowd.
Marie, who was also from (a more fictional) France, introduced herself to Marie-Christine. "Wow, it is so nice to meet a princess!" Marie-Christine said shyly.
"Well, that's nice, but I'm an heiress!" Piper insisted.
Marie-Christine quickly moved on to meet Liesel, a princess from Lichtenstein who seemed a little more low-key.
But Baby-Ruthie soon cornered Marie-Christine. "Are you going to help us spread our cause to France?" Ruthie asked. "It's very important!" Baby insisted.
Marie-Christine was saved from having to answer by Kat's outburst. "HMMMMMPH!!!!! WHY ARE YOU WEARING OUR OUTFITS?!?!?!??!!" she screamed at two girls in the corner, Hope and Emily.
"Oh, no," Marie-Christine said, and ran to hide behind Cate. "What's the matter?" Cate asked. "The one girl with red hair looks just like my sister, and my sister is mean!" Marie-Christine exclaimed.
"Oh, we probably should have asked first, but just wanted to look like you and Baby-Ruthie, because you have the best style! Why else would we wear your clothes?" Emily told Kat very sweetly, and meant it - at least for herself. Hope seemed to be holding back a smirk that signaled maybe she had worn one of Baby-Ruthie's dresses to get them and Kit-Kat riled up. Kat considered Emily's explanation.
"Emily is really nice," Cate said to Marie-Christine.
Kat discussed the matter with Kit. "We do have really good style," she admitted. "Yeah," Kit said, "except it's better than Baby-Ruthie's. She should have pointed that out." "Very true," Kat agreed. "But Emily is always worried about leaving people out."
Having reached a decision, Kit threw her arms up and cheered. "We DO have the bestest style ever!!!!! Emily is such a good friend!"
"I guess I'll go talk to her," Marie-Christine said bravely.
Kit-Kat had turned to discussing who looked better in their outfits (naturally, them).
They introduced Marie-Christine to Emily. "Oh!" Emily said, excited. "You're from France! They were our allies in the War!" Emily tried not to say anything mean about anyone, even the citizens of her country's frenemy, France. However, she did add to herself, in her thoughts, that the French frogs weren't really effective allies as they had quickly succumed to German occupation. "Uh, yes..." Marie-Christine said, confused. "I am from 1944," Emily explained. Marie-Christine felt relieved that Emily was not like her sister, Christelle.
Hope went over to talk to Cate and get away from Kit-Kat. "Why are you all patriotic-ed out?" she joked.
"Oh, it's Winter Olympic season! Even though there are no Olympics this year. I like wearing my Olympic gear... and sparkles; sparkles are a skating thing," Cate added. She felt kind-of uncomfortable around Hope, one of Harper's friends who was known for her very vocal cancer activisim. Even though Cate wanted to go into cancer medicine (and therefore was heavily recruited by Hope to join her cause - "you could use your skating celebrity!"), she was not very publicly outspoken that way. Cate felt a little defensive, like Hope was interrogating her clothing choices. But Hope just said "cool" and then added, "Throw some glitter, make it rain?" Cate laughed, because it was funny and seemed like something her roommate Steph would say.
"HMMMPH!!!" Kit interrupted. "The Olympics are boring."
"Yeah, because they wouldn't invite us because they just knew we would beat everyone in everything," Kat said dreamily. "We are the bestest athletes ever!" "Okay," said Hope.
Lumiere and Cogsworth reappeared in the entry room. "Attention, it is only a few more minutes until another two tables open up! We have brought our menu so you can see what you might like to order while you wait. A special feature of Be Our Guest is going to be our international dessert menu - of course for the opening day, we are featuring pie and putting en flambe from France!"
"Feel free to check out our dessert cards too," Cogsworth said. "We will have a different dessert from a different country every day of the week!"
Marie-Christine ran up to join Cate, Hope and Kit-Kat after Lumiere and Cogsworth left. "Wow, Cate, I didn't know you were in the Olympics! That is so cool!" "HMMPH." Kit said. "We're better."
Kit-Kat ran off to find Baby-Ruthie, displeased that Marie-Christine didn't verbalize her agreement that they were better athletes than an Olympian. Marie-Christine instead whispered to Cate, "I don't think we should let Baby-Ruthie know that escargot means snails..."
EPILOGUE!! Kit-Kat found a present under the tree but neither seemed to want to touch it.
They are afraid of Santa because sometimes he gives them coal.
Finally they braved the odds and opened the present to find a treasure tote featuring them!
"Doll-size paper dolls of us and our best friends!!!! GO US!!!!"
