Sky Pond with our goal Taylor glacier
Wayne Herrick on some new snow that was well bonded to the old icy snow.
the new snow provided the best footing. The slope angle was 40 degrees on the lower slopes.
one area had a little deeper new snow but I got by fine without gaitors.
The old hard snow provided a very firm base for snow pickets.
The slope angle had increased, we had to do some front pointing. Protection was comforting here.
Wayne set up anchor at the top of the first pitch.
2 ice tools, steel crampons, good boots, and a rope. I felt very secure.
coming out of the ice cave, I wish we had a photo of the stem out .
The climbing gets unusal and a lot of fun cowboying up this fin.
Wayne took this photo from inside the cave.
It took Wayne awhile to find a good anchor at the top of the second pitch, he got 2 good ice screws inside this ice/rock slot.
the end of the technical part.
thunder and snow with a little buzzing. I had hoped to top Powell Mt and Tayor Pk but changed my mind.
We took Andrews glacier out, I got in a little glissadeing there.
