Entrance to the Grand Canyon Park
First look into the Ditch this year.
Friends to share the trail with (L to R): Larry, Kevin, Steve and Deb Pero, Tina Ure, Bryan.
My new UltrAspire pack - worked awesome!!!
Lets get this party started!
Of course Larry wasn't ready at 4:25, so we actually started at 4:29, after taking more pictures, shuffling items in the packs and drinking some water.
The Real Way - Bright Angel trail both directions.
Shed clothes in 3 minutes.
Indian Garden in under an hour (4.6M).
Bridge over Colorado river.
Phantom Ranch, just a touch over 2 hrs.
Tina and Bryon started 1hr ahead at Bright Angel, other 2 guys came from North Rim.
Larry about to begin feeling not enough calories.
Cottonwood campground, 7 miles from Phantom Ranch
Not in a mood.
A trail carved into the side of a cliff.
I've been alone for a while.
Tunnel 2 miles below the North Rim.
At the North Rim, 6:20 from start!!!
Deb and Steve started at South Caibab an hour before us.
Photo curtsey of Steve Pero - I am thrilled to be on North Rim!
Photo curtsey of Steve Pero - may be too much thrilled...
Larry came 7 minutes later, surprisingly sooner than expected all things considering, what gave me hope, and spent some time trying to catch up on fueling.
Our feet? Drymax socks and LaSportiva shoes! I wore Crosslites 2.0, and Larry broke into new Fireblades.
Total time at North Rim 20 minutes, leaving now.
He is trying hard to crack a smile, but takes some walking first downhill to settle in the food he consumed. I am still figuring out if I want to leave him in a dust:)
Photo curtsey of Steve Pero - running back, return journey begins.
Photo curtsey of Steve Pero - looks like Larry is recovering!
Tina and Bryon at water spot at tunnel below NR.
Larry's energy turn-around! And the adventure begins! We were booking it from here on.
Back to Cottonwood.
Phantom Ranch #2, lemonade and food.
Spend almost 25 minutes eating and socializing.
Climbing Devil's Staircase - ain't bad at all!
Indian Garden, one last time!
Done! Total time 13:35, minus 2 big breaks of 20 min at North Rim and 25 min at Phantom Ranch (not counting small 5-min stops), and we couldn't have been happier.
Piece of cake! Checked this one off the bucket list!
An Oregon gang to go for it next day.
Beer...promise it's not mine!
Meeting the sunrise next morning, in a more relaxed way:)
