Excitement is high at the start of the race. It's only the second race of nine total in the Granite State Snowshoe Series, and the points are there for the taking. Well, for people faster than me, that is.
RD Michael describes the course, which consisted of two loops up and over two hills. Two somewhat sizeable hills. Heart rate around 180bpm hills.
Trail Pixie and I pose for a picture before the race. She was breaking in a new pair of snowshoes, and wearing a fashionable shirt to boot. That's who she is.
And we're off! Well, they are. I'm still standing around taking pictures. It's how I warm up.
Snow flies as the runners take off. This is the last time I will see the majority of them until the finish line.
This being single track trail, the start can be somewhat congested. Luckily, the hills will seperate us quickly enough.
Well, not immediately.
The stream crossing did create a bit of a queue.
And the hill continues.
Breakheart Dan almost at the finishing line.
But first, Trail Pixie sprints to the finish line.
Dan forgot to eat this morning. He never takes my advice: eat constantly. Follow that rule and you can never go wrong.
We pose, victorious as always. My safety pins are all over the place. Next time I will ask an adult to help me with them.
