An old Chilian
Pinera has since been elected president, the first right wing president in Chile since its transition to democracy
At the spa site, cold stream of water
A Forest of many green colours, red bush's and rock fangus - Lovely!
Jesus and Black Ibises
Black Ibis, I wasn't sure if he was trying to scare me away as I was moving closer and closer with my camera
Getting ready to climb Villarica Volcano
On the way up
We walked our way up, and after an hour or so, we had climb up to the end of the ski lift - which was out of use since the end of winter and ski season
Almost at cloud level and Pucon below us (near the lake)
A little bit of Ice, A lot of snow and some wonderful sun light to give this picture life
One more peak behind us
On the way up, we have reached cloud level
The peak, still some way to go, and the peak is smoking
Looking down at clouds
More people making the climb
Looking south east - Lanin Volcano sticks out from the clouds. Its 3776 meters high, which makes it almost 1000 meters more then Villarica volcano. Its not an active volcano.
Not far to go, about half an hour more. The wind is strong and the smell of Sulphar isn't that nice either.
Almost there.... the final climb to the peak
Standing near the peak, these two craters are not the peak or main crater... but they are quite smelly themselves and I wouldn't get too close to them either
The peak of Villarica volcano. It was impossible to see any Lava down there... (during summer month's, the snow melts and then it is possible to see some lava)
I look like I've just been shot! This is actually how I was feeling. After 5.5 hours of constant upwards walking - I was knackered, the wind was just too strong, the smell was awful, and as exhilirated as I might have felt - it was a joy very difficult to enjoy, the conditions are so unfriendly that after 10 minutes I just wanted to leave. Veni, Vidi, Vici, Volo in domum redire :)
Standing on the peak and looking down to Lago Villarica
Walking down the Volcano, near the point we started walking up
Villarica Volcano in all its Glory, as seen from Pucon. If you look down the volcano cone, there's a small peak in the middle right, just below that and on the left is a brown spot - on the right is the cable lift. We zig zagged our way up to the cone from there. If you look again at the top of the cone - just below it is a little white splurge - from there we did the final climb to the peak.
Villarica volcano at night, the view isn't that good as I took the photo from the hostel, however if you look at the top of the Volcano cone - you can see the volcano smoke in a red shimmer... some lava made glow after all
Osorno Volcano (as seen from a distance - from the bus on the way back to Bariloche from Pucon)
