We hiked in from the trailhead near Molas Lake on Friday morning.
It looked like rain, but never did. We will eventually end up in the valley on the left side of the mountains.
There is a substantial drop to cross the Animas River from the trailhead.
There is a nice bridge.
This is where we are heading.
First views of Vestal Peak.
This is the beaver pond where we turn off the CDT trail and head up into Vestal Basin.
The gang making there way up into Vestal Basin. We were off trail during this section.
Looking back from where we came.
After setting up camp, Andy, Jason, and myself set out for an afternoon climb of Electic Peak. We decided that this nice corner system would make a more direct route up. It was a fun scramble.
Looking down into Vestal Basin. Our camp is down there somewhere.
Unfortunately before we got the summit, the weather started to turn bad. So we headed back to camp.
Sunset. We had rain for most of the night.
Trying to decide if the weather will be good for Wham Ridge.
Nina spent a lot of time keeping a squirell up a tree.
The weather cleared so we decided to go. The route angles in from the left and then climbs on the right side for most of the way.
I have too many photos of this face. We basically went up the grass ledge to the right side of the face and then just started up.
Getting ready for some climbing. Lee and myself did not bring any gear.
Still working up to the grass ledge.
The grass ledge.
Vestal Lake and Peak Two in the distance.
Awesome Views. Looking East at West Trinity Peak. Off in the distance is Storm King, Mt. Silex, and The Guardian.
Sarah and Andy!
After climbing Wham Ridge we descended back down and climbed up Arrow Peak.
Working up the low angle slabs on Arrow Peak.
Sarah and Vestal Peak.
For 4th of July, we climbed the Trinty Peaks and did Peak Two and Three.
On the approach.
Jason pointing out where we climbed yesterday.
Lee was happy to climb it also.
Allison at the top of West Trinity.
Traversing along the back side to the middle Trinity.
The route up the East Trinity goes up the obvious gully.
I am alway impressed the way goats jump around the rocks.
The third Trinity peak complete.
Jason and myself continued around the basin to climb peaks two and three.
The rock on this ridge was not the most solid, but it worked.
Lots o shale
View from the top of Peak Three. Vestal and Arrow Peaks are sceen.
Peak Two across the way.
Jason on Peak Two.
The views were amazing.
We went down and explored this lake on top of the ridge.
Nice place for a quick nap.
The views of Wham Ridge were awesome from this location.
The Trinity Peaks.
Back down in camp after an awesome two days.
Time to hike out.
Back at the beaver dam.
Only one climb left, up from the Animas.
I ran into my old friend Mary on the hike out.
Back at the car.
