Top of the drop into the Caldera on Pipeline Road.
Dropping down "Nate's Nemesis"
It is a little more eroded from after the fire, but not too bad.
Word to the wise, this is steep.
View out into the Caldera on the way down.
The route follows Pipeline Road west across the Caldera.
Some sections are burnt.
While others are not.
This section along Pipeline Road has some little rolling hills.
Cresting a small hill.
Coming into one of the short sections of more extreme burn. Most of the Caldera section did not have any severe burn.
Dropping out of the trees into Valle Toledo
We saw several herds of elk.
Movie: View along Pipeline Road in Valle Toledo. (Note the elk running across the grass meadow)
Looking up Obsidian Valley.
Leaving Pipeline Road to head up Obsidian Valley.
We went cross country (from the road below) up to hear where we got on an old logging road.
Old logging road.
Logging road going up Obsidian Valley.
Left or Right. We chose left.
Blake running past a little pond. Valle Toledo in the background.
Looking down Obsidian Valley into Valle Toledo.
Continuing along Obsidian Valley.
The only downed tree that we came across.
Puerto de Abrigo where we hope to have an aid station (Obsidian Valley Aid Station). Looking back from the way we came.
The route continues this way. This aid station would be about 7 miles from Pipeline Road Aid Station.
Running along VS-05 (I think) in Obsidian Valley.
More elk. This was a really big herd.
Movie: Obsidian Valley.
Exiting Obsidian Valley.
The next section runs on VC-02
Jaramillo Creek (I think)
Movie: View of Valle Grande from VC-02
Rocks displaced from a flash flood off Cerro Medio.
It washed right across the road and down into Valle Grande
Rabbit Mountain in the distance.
Making our way around Cerro Medio. Cerro Grande is in the distance.

Just a jaw
Getting close to the Valle Grande Aid Station location.
The Valle Grande Aid Station will be located on the edge of the trees ahead. This is the same location from previous years, but you will be approaching from the opposite direction this year.
From the Valle Grande Aid Station, you will go around the right side of this pond and then turn left to the saddle between Pajarito and Cerro Grande (can't be seen in this photo)
Parajito Mountain. The saddle on the right of this photo is where the race course will go.
Tom crossing the creek.
Looking back towards the aid station.
After passing by the pond, you turn slightly left and go to this saddle. This section is cross country.
Starting to enter the trees.
Crazy burnt tree
Climbing to the saddle.
This old road goes to the top of the saddle.
Almost at the saddle.
On the saddle. Next is to the top of Pajarito Mountain.
Looking back down into the Caldera.
Cresting out on top of Pajarito Mountain.
